Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most cherished moments, and for many Hoboken {+ Jersey City} mamas and papas, choosing your health care provider and where to deliver your baby is an important decision that becomes a part of the birth story. In Hoboken, CarePoint is an option for all expecting mothers to consider. To help you learn more about the hospital {located at 306 Willow Avenue in Hoboken}, our team took a tour of the CarePoint Labor and Delivery unit at CarePoint in Hoboken, and we’re sharing all about it + the offerings, below:

When it comes to delivery, a private room is KEY.  Privacy = a way to bond with your family and feel comfortable {because let’s face it, this is *not* the most comfortable scenario to be going through, regardless}. Following the birth of the baby, mamas will enjoy a private postpartum room equipped with Wi-Fi + television. The CarePoint medical professionals {including certified nurses and board-certified obstetricians who understand family-centered care} work round-the-clock to make sure that all is copacetic.

CarePoint’s Family Birth Centers provide mother/baby couplet care to new families, allowing mothers and newborns to remain together during the entire hospital stay. This provides many physical and emotional benefits, including facilitating mother-baby bonding, as well as helping new mothers feel more comfortable with their babies’ needs by the time they go home together. Studies show that infants who spend more time in their mothers’ presence cry less, have lower blood pressure, and maintain a more stable temperature and pulse.

The CarePoint staff is specially trained to care for the needs of both mothers and newborns following delivery, and the facilities, which all include private rooms with extra sleeping accommodations, are designed to encourage mother-infant bonding. In addition to participating in the actual birth, fathers or partners are encouraged to stay for the duration of mother and baby’s stay in the hospital.

Dr. Meika, of Carepoint Health, explains:

“The labor and delivery nurses are a special breed. They care for each patient with love and respect. And they treat each birth as a brand new experience … because for that family it is a gift. So basically it’s Christmas on the unit every day”.

Water birth is also an option at CarePoint Health. Water birth is when a mother labors and gives birth in water. This happens in a birthing tub at a birthing center, hospital, or at home. Many women labor in the tub and get out when it’s time to push, or only get into the tub just before pushing. Water labor and water birth can happen in many different ways, and it’s best for mom to follow her intuition and your provider’s instruction during the childbirth process.

According to the American pregnancy association, “Buoyancy promotes more efficient uterine contractions and improved blood circulation resulting in better oxygenation of the uterine muscles, less pain for the mother, and more oxygen for the baby”.
**Please talk to your provider about the risks and benefits to see if water birth is right for you.

Couplet Care

At Carepoint Health, the facility also encourages couplet care {aka mom and baby are together for the entire stay at the hospital}. Couplet care enhances the birth experience in numerous ways, allows families to stay together for the entire hospital stay and helping new mothers feel more confident in their ability to care for their babies. It also gives parents greater peace of mind having their babies at the bedside as well as allowing them to tune into their newborn’s early signals {and so no special moments are missed!}.

After touring the space, it’s clear Carepoint has really gone above and beyond to make sure that their Labor and Delivery wing is perfect for growing families. Have questions about the hospital and its offerings? Call 201-884-5329 or email Concierge@carepointhealth.org.
