A new luxury dessert shop has opened in the burgeoning Jersey City neighborhood of Bergen-Lafayette, called Bon Vivant. Bon Vivant is a luxury boutique for miniature cakes and petits fours (think small fancy cake) that just opened in a retail space at 295 Johnston Avenue at the 295J Apartments. Bon Vivant opened its first location on E 58th Street in Manhattan in 2013. From what we can tell, the location shut down in March of 2020 and is still temporarily closed. We believe that 295J will be the permanent location moving forward.

After leaving behind a 17-year career in the corporate world, Maya Hormis founded Bon Vivant cake café in 2013, inspired by a thought-provoking speech by Steve Jobs. Seeking to find work that resonated with her deeply, she discovered her true passion for pastry during an exploratory year where she got her certification in Culinary + Pastry Arts from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu.

The store features delightful French architectural details and displays a collection of fine teas, luxurious gift boxes, and elaborate celebration arrangements.
The Jersey City location sells sweet little cakes in various flavors like Bourbon Vanilla with layers of delicate vanilla cake altered with Bourbon vanilla bean buttercream, or the Lavender Bloom petit cake which consists of delicate vanilla cake layered with an exquisite lavender bud buttercream. Other signature flavors include Coffee Cream, Lemon Zest, and Rose Petal.
The cafe will also serve its Diamants- buttery, delicious shortbread, perfect with a cup of tea or coffee. Bon Vivant also serves Julius Meinl Italian espresso, coffee, and assorted loose leaf teas from Austria. All dine-in orders are served on floral china, making it perfect for a lovely afternoon tea party.
