“Throughout my adult life, I often dreamt about owning my own beauty business,” says Kari Valcich. That’s why, after returning from maternity leave, she pivoted careers, leaving her job as an entertainment marketing executive to chase her passion. Valchich now owns three Blo Blow Dry Bars, one in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, one in Greenwich, Connecticut, and her newest one in Jersey City. Read on to learn more about Blo Blow Dry Bar, located at 160 Morgan Street in Jersey City.

“Throughout my career, blowouts and self-care were my escape,” she says, and she often went to blow dry bars to prepare for meetings or take a break, especially because she was commuting from New Jersey to Manhattan. She figured she couldn’t be the only one who needed the pampering and wanted to be the person who could offer it to others.

Blo Jersey City originally opened in September 2018 and was doing well until, of course, the Coronavirus pandemic. So, when restrictions safely permitted her to, Kari Valcich reopened Blo Jersey City’s doors on March 27th, as its new owner.

“I’m fortunate and excited to be reopening at a time when the Jersey City community and the country as a whole is beginning its post-pandemic road to recovery,” Valcich says. “For many, physical maintenance, grooming regimens and beauty rituals are central to their sense of identity. Whether people are seeking to resume their pre-pandemic self-care routines, or simply need some post-pandemic pampering, I’m excited to be a part of the process by helping them look and feel like their best selves, and pleased that Blo can be part of the revitalization of the Jersey City business community post-Covid, bringing back jobs and offering services that the community values.”

Customizing each location to the community and their specific interests are important to Valcich. The modern interior, complete with dark walls, greenery, and sleek white furniture accents, ties into the vibe of the building around it, keeping with the vibe of the trendy area.

Valcich offers special promotions for locals, too. For example, Blo Blow offers residents of The Morgan at Provost Square, the building it’s located in, an ongoing 15% discount for hair and beauty services, as well as retail products. There will also be deals and promotions for non-Morgan residents in the coming months, she explains.

Blo Blow Dry Bar is located at 160 Morgan Street and is open from 9AM to 9PM Thursdays through Saturdays, and 9AM to 3PM on Sundays, though appointments can be made as early as 7AM.
