There’s definitely no shortage of pizza options throughout Hoboken and Jersey City — and yet another spot is coming to JC. Basile’s Pizza, a local Hoboken pizza restaurant currently located at 89 Washington Street, is expanding to Jersey City and announced it is officially opening this Friday, August 12th. In an Instagram post, Historic Downtown Jersey City revealed that Basile’s will be moving to Grove Street Path Plaza at 116 Newark Avenue. HDSID also revealed that Basile’s will be serving free pizza to celebrate its opening day this Friday. Read on for what we know about Basile’s newest Jersey City location.
About Basile’s Pizza
Basile’s (pronounced Basil’s, like the herb) is a no-frills pizzeria that focuses on one thing: serving quality pizza. It has been in operation for over 10 years, per Patch, and has the same owner as La Casa, located at 54 Newark Street.
Owner Russell Basile was inspired by his Tuscan roots when creating the pizza for the shop.
“We want to give it that Tuscan taste, where my family is from,” Russell told Patch.
Marketing itself as a family business, Basile’s has become a popular pizza spot in Hoboken. It has pick-up, delivery, and dine-in options.

Back in 2015, Basile’s partnered with Slice, a tech service that helps improve pizza delivery. This partnership has helped make delivery one of the prime offerings for Basile’s.

When it comes to the menu at Basile’s, it has all of the usual suspects. Whether you’re craving pepperoni, margarita, vegetable, or white pizza, Basile’s has you covered. There’s also an option to create your own pizza with a choice of 5 toppings. According to the website, the Grandma pizza is one of the shop’s most popular options. Spinach, pepperoni, and broccoli rolls are all also offered as sides, as well as garlic knots.
The Hoboken pizzeria is open from 10:30AM – 9PM every day, with later options available for delivery and takeout.
Basile’s Expansion to Jersey City
In an Instagram post on June 13th, Historic Downtown Jersey City broke the news that Basile’s Pizza will be coming to Jersey City at 116 Newark Avenue. This was announced alongside another secret business that will soon be opening its doors in Jersey City.

On July 19th, Historic Downtown Jersey City posted again to share that opening plans for Basile’s are coming together — and revealed the team was aiming for an early August opening. What’s more, to celebrate its opening day, Basile’s will be serving free pizza.
“The new neighbors are looking and tasting good!” the post reads. “Basile’s is opening in early August. Stop by for free slices on opening day. 116 Newark Ave, right by the Grove St. Path Plaza.”

Basile’s Jersey City location will follow in the footsteps of Tony Boloney’s, which previously expanded from Hoboken to Jersey City at 363 Grove Street. It will also be joining Two Boots Pizza at 133 Newark Avenue and Helen’s Pizza at 183 Newark Avenue.
