Arthur’s Steak House – located at 237 Washington Street – announced that its last day of service has been expanding by a week and will close on Sunday, February 6th, as the restaurant will be closing for renovations. This is not goodbye, the restaurant will be saving the historical part of the building and putting on an addition to make it more modern before reopening.
The steakhouse has become a longstanding staple of Hoboken, starting service in the mid-1980s as one of the first of its kind in the area. Current owners David and Wanda Jacey bought Arthur’s in 2011, and David also owns Mills Tavern and Black Bear Bar and Grill. Arthur’s is best known for its “famous” garlic bread, griddled potatoes, French onion soup, and Arthur’s Famous Cheeseburger.
The laid-back, casual restaurant has a sweet and simple menu, not a lot of items but the great quality outweighs all. Along with the most popular dishes, there’s also a 24-ounce ribeye and a 16-ounce New York strip (of course!), along with lighter options like a classic wedge salad.
Arthur’s is also known to be haunted according to employees, with reports of footsteps, flickering lights, whispers, and more spine-chilling occasions to prove it. But all in all, the restaurant is loved by residents and non-residents alike.
In wake of the closing, Arthur’s released this statement on Instagram in January including in the message that they will be selling all Arthur’s memorabilia to interested parties:
Dear friends and loyal customers. It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Arthur’s will be closing for renovations at the end of January. Our last day of business will be Sunday January 30.
Please come visit us one more time and enjoy an Arthur’s steak, the famous griddled potatoes, garlic bread, french onion soup, and our famous burger before we close. We will also be selling all Arthur’s memorabilia, all neon beer signs, vintage beer and liquor mirrors/signs, tiffany lamps, and all furnishings.
Please call (201)656-5009 or e-mail [email protected] to make a reservation. Our hours of operation until we close will be Thursday and Friday 4PM, Saturday and Sunday 1PM. If you have any interest in purchasing any Arthur’s memorabilia please e-mail us or send us a message on our Instagram or Facebook.
Sincerely David and Wanda Jacey.
The closure has been extended to February 6th, 2022. Arthur’s estimates that the renovation will take over a year and up to 18 months to complete before its reopening. We will keep you updated on the status of the reopening as more details become available to us.
