In March 2019, the bar owner Joseph Barone sold ‘Journal Square Pub’ (now known as JSQ Lounge)  after operating the locale for 28 years, Jersey Digs reported. It was then taken over by Tory Aunspach of Hooked JC who had a vision to rebrand as “The Waldorf of dive bars,” he explained in a statement.

Now, locals can stop into JSQ Lounge for a craft cocktail or cold beer in the newly designed interior or spacious outdoor setting. The new look includes fresh coats of paint including several indoor and outdoor murals – the outdoor piece being completed by local and well-known artist Mustart.

The vibe is definitely perfect for a chill night out with friends. There’s a farmhouse/beachy aesthetic with touches of vintage accents like the gold bedazzled ceiling lights. There are two floors, making it great for large groups.

The establishment previously served food before closing due to COVID, but will not be doing so going forward. Fret not, the bar’s cocktail game is on point and its back to regularly hosting theme nights and live music performances.
