It’s officially summer in Hudson Count which means longer days, movies in the park, and tons of ways to give back! There is SO much going on this month that we’re posting the list in two parts to make sure every org and event gets an equal amount of love, so check back later in the month for round two. Here is the list of volunteering opportunities in Hoboken and Jersey City from June 1st – 15th, so you can get involved:

Liberty Humane Society Yappy Hour at Ale House: Friday, June 1st from 7:00PM – 9:00PM

If it’s the first Friday of the month you know it’s time to pack your pup and head on over to Ale House for Liberty Humane Society’s monthly Yappy Hour. Get extended happy hour deals and drink specials all night with the purchase of a $5 wristband at the door. As always, 100% of proceeds benefit the animals of the LHS. 11th Annual Walk-A-Thon at St. Joseph’s School for the Blind: Friday, June 1st from 9:30AM – 1:30PM

Are you among the lucky few with Fridays off in the summer? If so, start your weekend off on the right foot {literally} and join St. Joseph’s School for the Blind on their 11th Annual Walk-A-Thon. The walk kicks off at the school on Summit Ave and continues to Pershing Field Park. Funds raised by walkers and their family will help the school to purchase assistive technology for our students. Simple Service Saturday with Hoboken Grace: Saturday, June 2nd from 10:00AM – 2:30PM

It’s been said that there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness and that’s the idea behind Simple Service Saturday! Meet up at 503 3rd Street in Hoboken at 10:00AM and spend the day brightening other people’s day {and probably yours in the process} via little acts of kindness like bring water bottles to the dog park, weeding, or handing out popcorn. Hudson County Hackathon at Liberty Science Center: Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00AM – 5:00PM

You’ve heard of a marathon, a dance-a-thon, and we’ve already told you about a walk-a-thon this month, but have you heard of hackathon?! Be a part of the inaugural Hudson County Tri-District Hack-A-Thon, a marathon software and hardware product creation event. This ‘thon provides an opportunity for public school students in 5th – 7th grades from Hoboken, Jersey City, and Union City to work together to prepare a practical solution to real-life problems facing Hudson County. Volunteers are needed for many aspects of the event from set-up and breakdown to student mentors to food donations. Read more about this pioneering event and sign up here.

Liberty Humane Society Barks + Bites at Burger Supreme: Saturday, June 2nd from 1:00PM – 3:00PM

National Burger Day may have been last month but who needs a holiday to celebrate when eating a burger means helping pets in need! Stop by Burgers and Bites in Jersey City for lunch or an afternoon snack and 30% of your check will benefit the Liberty Humane Society. There will be free dog treats for the four-legged friends and live music for all. RSVP here or just swing through.

Hamilton Park Conservancy Night Under the Stars at Park Francis: Saturday, June 2nd from 6:00PM – 9:00PM

What better way to support the historic Hamilton Park than by taking it in from a rooftop? Indulge in cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music, and of course, scenic views, from the Park Francis rooftop in support of the Hamilton Park Conservancy. TIckets are $85 and guests must be 21 and over. Don’t worry if the forecast is cloudy, the rain date is June 22nd – same time, same place. Tickets are limited so get yours or make a gift here.

Con Vivo Music 2018 Gala at Novado Gallery: Saturday, June 2nd at 7:00PM

Join Con Vivo Music in their mission to bring music to the community at their 2018 Gala: Look and Listen! Doors open at 7:00PM and the program begins at 7:30PM. Enjoy an evening full of solo and duo performances hand-picked to complement the different visual artists on display plus complimentary drinks, light food, and a silent auction. Inaugural Ruthie K Day at Prime Cycle: Sunday, June 3rd from 8:00AM – 12:00PM

Prime Cycle has dedicated June 3rd as Ruthie K Day in honor of Prime rider Ruth Kavanagh. Ruth has been battling brain cancer for years but continues to stay strong and ride throughout her treatments. The day kicks off with a quick talk from Ruth herself followed by various theme rides like girl power and positive vibes, plus free giveaways all day. $5 from every ride booked will be donated to the National Brain Tumor Society and cash donations will be accepted all day long. Annual Hoboken Secret Gardens Tour: Sunday, June 3rd from 9:00AM – 4:00PM

Get behind the scenes of Hoboken’s Annual Secret Gardens Tour by volunteering to staff the event. Since this year’s tour is self-guided, volunteers will be stationed at each of the 10 stops plus two bonus locations to greet visitors and direct them to the gardens. No worries if you’re not a #plantlady yet, experts will be stationed in each location to answer any visitor questions. Earn a ticket to check out the gardens for yourself after your shift and refuel at an appreciation picnic following the tour. Jersey Cats Adoption Day at Hoboken Pet: Sunday, June 3rd from 12:00PM – 3:00PM

Looking for the purr-fect pet this summer? Stop by Hoboken Pet and meet the gorgeous kitties available for adoption through JerseyCats. Find out more about their organization, here.

Saint Peter’s University Five-Course Dinner with Wine Pairings Fundraiser at Amanda’s: Monday, June 4th from 6:00PM – 9:00PM

Enjoy a delicious 5-course dinner with wine pairings at Hoboken mainstay, Amanda’s, to support Saint Peter’s University and St. Aedan’s: The Saint Peter’s University Church. Hudson County CASA Information Session at the Hudson County Admin Building: Tuesday, June 5th at 6:30PM

Find out how you can help a local child by attending this month’s Information Session for Hudson County CASA. Volunteers are an integral part of foster children’s success and you don’t need a second bedroom or extraordinary resources to make a difference – just a desire to help. BIG Financial Courage Awards – Red Carpet Gala at Liberty House: Wednesday, June 6th from 11:30AM – 2:00PM

B.I.G stands for Believe, Inspire, Grow, and is a women’s empowerment network dedicated to helping women unlock their potential. SwanGirl Spa Day at Crowned Social: Wednesday, June 6th from 2:00PM – 6:00PM

Brighten up your hump day with a spa day for a cause! Guests can enjoy three services provided by Crowned Social and refreshments will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the pampering will help fund youth programs in Jersey City via Deliverance Children’s Ministry and Joys in Teaching – organizations dedicated to fostering community engagement and bridging the education gap. SJC Green Drinks +ART at LITM: Wednesday, June 6th from 6:00PM – 9:00PM

Interested in sustainability and want to grab a drink with others who are too? Then hop on the PATH to Grove Street for cocktails at LITM with Sustainable Jersey City {SJC} – the first drink is on the house! StreetSquash Newark Young Leadership Committee Team Party at Wicked Wolf: Thursday, June 7th from 6:00PM – 9:00PM

Wicked Wolf isn’t just for Sunday Funday! Stop by and get your weekend started early with a happy hour sponsored by StreetSquash’s Young Leadership Committee StreetSquash is a comprehensive program providing after school, college access and summer programming for children in Newark. Get together with friends and neighbors to beautify Jersey City as part of a community-wide service day. Registration {plus coffee and a light breakfast} begins on the Newark Pedestrian Plaza at 10:00AM and teams will head out on individual projects from there. Special Needs Children’s Committee Car Wash at the Hoboken Elks Lodge: Saturday, June 9th from 10:00AM – 1:00PM

Is your car still covered in pollen dust from the {seemingly} never-ending allergy season? Get your whip sparkling again while supporting the Hoboken Elks Special Needs Committee. The Committee hosts a Holiday party each year for disabled children and their families and also helps children attend summer camp at Elks Camp Moore. Proceeds from the car wash support these efforts. Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Unity Walk: Saturday, June 9th at 11:00AM

Stand up against violence in Jersey City at the 3rd Annual JC Anti Violence Coalition Unity Walk. The walk starts at McAdoo Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive and winds its way through the city ending at Lincoln Park. There will be a post-walk picnic with food, games, live entertainment, information booths, arts and crafts, and more! RSVP here.

Segunda Quimbamba Benefit Concert at FM Bar: Saturday, June 9th at 7:00PM

Join Segunda Quimbamba for a lively evening of music to support El Centro Cunyabe in Puerto Rico. Admission is $20 at the door with a DJ kicking things off at 7:00PM and live music starting at 8:00PM. All proceeds benefit much needed rebuilding efforts in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation NJ Chapter Take Steps Walk at Liberty State Park: Sunday, June 10th at 10:00AM

Band together with the NJ Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation to take steps against IBD. In addition to participating in the walk with beautiful skyline and landmark views the day includes prizes, a patient recognition ceremony, music, activities, food, and fun for the whole family. Cocktail Mixer for a Cause at Corgi Distillery: Wednesday, June 13th from 6:00PM – 10:00PM
