Located on 4th and Adams in the Mile Square just steps away from Fiore’s and The Stewed Cow, you’ll find Vision of Hair, a salon and shop featuring a full-service menu that’s been in the area since 2014. The team has a loyal clientele, and also hosts frequent pop-up initiatives. How It Started
Julia Miller was a local hairdresser in Hoboken for years, when she took a leap of faith in 2014 to open the doors to her very own salon, Vision of Hair. Building the business from the ground up, she never imagined having the extraordinary staff and loyal customer base she does today.

Like any entrepreneur, Julia has encountered some challenges along the way, especially last spring when COVID-19 unexpectedly hit. Similar to other local businesses, Julia was forced to shut down the salon in March 2020. The salon was luckily able to reopen just three months later on June 22nd but quickly learned that with the pandemic and societal changes things couldn’t quite be the same as they once were.
Adjusting To COVID-19
Almost a year later, the Vision of Hair team has grown stronger than ever and has begun to return to some normalcy. Even though the salon has become busier, there are still some capacity restrictions with how many people can be in the salon, and time limits with each appointment.
Julia explained, “While we used to take walk-ins, everything is now appointment only which has impacted the salon. We previously did the double booking, for example when a color is processing for 35 to 45 minutes we would book another person’s haircut or blowout in between.”
Despite any capacity restrictions the salon still currently offers a full menu of standard services including a haircut {$55 for women and $35 for men}, wash + blow dry {starting at $30}, full highlights with glaze {starting at $245}, Brazilian blowouts {starting at $289} and more. For regular customers, there are package deals for blowouts and treatments that many locals take advantage of.
Regular stylist Kizzy Moreira who has been with the business since last year, shared ”I have 21 years of experience in the beauty industry, but am the newest at the house! When I joined the team last year I brought the famous natural Brazilian sugar wax, and am also known as the eyebrow queen. We all have our own specialties; my colleague Mina is a color specialist for all kinds of hairs and the best blowout I’ve ever had is from her.”
A Vision Beyond Just Hair
Vision of Hair’s recent Women’s History Month initiatives received widespread attention as the salon ran specials, organized raffles, and sold merchandise to empower all women. The biggest seller was the “Powerful Women” sweatshirts, which got regularly restocked — and every time, sold out in less than 30 minutes. Julia and her team are now working on new original clothing items for the future, including branded jean jackets with uplifting slogans.
As the staff continues to renovate the space and build out additional meaningful initiatives, and hopefully a second location at some point in the future, it is clear that these women have big dreams that go way further than just styling hair.

When asked about how far she has come these past six years Julia summed it up with a proud smile, “Vision of Hair is a group of talented, loving, diverse women who can achieve everything with empowerment and love from each other. We aren’t only a team we are a family and that’s how we also choose to treat our clients — just like family!”
