Remember in the spring of 2023 when Vince Vaughn was everywhere? In June of that year, not a day went by when the Wedding Crashers star wasn’t seen in Hoboken: ordering pizza by the slice at Basile’s, taking classes at YogaRenew, dining at Sorellina and Antique. Vince was experiencing Hoboken like a true local, but he was in Hudson County for work, filming a new movie called Nonnas in Bayonne. Two years later, Nonnas is set to make its Netflix debut on Friday, May 9th. Keep reading to learn more about Nonnas, the new Netflix film that brought Vince Vaughn to Hoboken in 2023.

A Brief Hoboken Home
Though the It Ends With Us crew took up most of the news coverage in May 2023 (and still does in 2025), Vince Vaughn was another notable name sharing a headline with Hoboken at the time. The veteran actor was first spotted at Basile’s on May 16th, 2023, and in the weeks to follow, he was seemingly on a mission to explore as much of the Mile Square as possible. And he wasn’t acting alone, either: on numerous occasions, Vince brought Susan Sarandon and Joe Manganiello along on his Hoboken adventures.

Vince Vaughn sightings eventually became routine around town, and locals speculated that the actor might have been temporarily living here. A few residents saw him at the W Hotel, but it’s unconfirmed if he had taken up residency there.
The Hoboken staycation would add up: from May – June 2023, Vince Vaughn was filming a new movie called Nonnas in Bayonne. At the time, crews were spotted at Judicke’s Bakery and around East 14th Street. Drea De Matteo, famous for her role as Adriana in The Sopranos, was also seen on set.
About Nonnas
Two years later, Nonnas is set to make its streaming premiere on Friday, May 9th. The movie follows Vince Vaughn’s character “Joe Scaravella, who realizes he’s wasted time as a single man at a dead-end job and yearns for a second chance,” per IMDB. “So he opens a restaurant and hires a group of grandmothers as chefs.”
The film is based on the true story of Joe Scaravella and his Staten Island restaurant Enoteca Maria, which employs grandmothers as chefs (and is still open today!). Though set in Staten Island, there are Hudson County/greater New Jersey vibes all over the film. So much so that two Sopranos stars — Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi) and Drea de Matteo (Adrianna) — were even recruited to the cast.
Beyond the Sopranos connection, Nonnas boasts a star-studded ensemble, featuring the likes of Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Linda Cardellini, Joe Manganiello, and Richie Moriarty.
