When one door closes, another one opens. It’s been a challenging year for everyone, especially small businesses, so it is exciting to see new local stores begin to open and thrive, including UNJUMBOLD, an art, home, and lifestyle business.
John Forslund and Michael Knight are among the many entrepreneurs to build businesses out of the pandemic. John and Michael are the creatives behind UNJUMBOLD, set to open on December 4th in Hoboken on First Street. Read on to learn more about UNJUMBOLD and how John and Michael’s dream became a reality.
The Background Story
John and Michael understood the devastation that the COVID-19 pandemic brought to businesses all across the USA, including John’s own Bar and Restaurant. This gave them the idea, and the time, to focus on another dream they had been thinking about – UNJUMBOLD.
The concept for UNJUMBOLD first came to them after their experience renovating and selling their own homes throughout the years. They first renovated and sold their apartment in Harlem, then purchased, renovated, and opened a wildly successful Instant-Hotel in the Catskills before eventually heading for the suburbs.
A year later, they restored their New Jersey home, and through all of it, tried to support small local shops, especially while traveling. With Michael’s visual merchandising background in apparel and John’s business background opening bars and restaurants, the two were a dream decorating duo. This was when a lightbulb went on for John and Micahel.
“Every time we would renovate or decorate, we’d have to go to 100 different sites to find the products that we love, so why not create a store that is the one place to get everything you want. A one-stop-shop. It’s a curated home store by us for you” – John and Michael explain, and with that thought, UNJUMBOLD was born.
UNJUMBOLD will be located at 257 1st Street in Hoboken, in place of Ricardo Roig’s art studio. “We were originally going to purchase a storefront on Washington Street,” Michael and John explain, “and ended up meeting with Ricardo because we wanted to sell his artwork in our store.”
It just so happened that Ricardo was planning on moving on from the studio space and graciously agreed to have UNJUMBOLD take its place. “We would love to keep the legacy alive.” Michael and John explain, which is why they plan to keep the artwork in the shop window and serve as a home and lifestyle store exclusive to Ricardo’s work.
Ricardo will still have his showroom in the W hotel in Hoboken.
