Bars Playing the St. Peter’s Game in Hoboken + Jersey City

There’s nothing like a Cinderella story to get even the least-interested basketball fans excited about the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. It seems like every March there’s a new team to learn about, whose bracket-busting play reaches new heights for a once unknown program. This year, the Cinderella story is Jersey City’s own St. Peter’s University, located at 2641 John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

The St. Peter’s Peacocks Men’s basketball team has stunned basketball fans across the nation with their play.  Winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship earned them a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The first round saw the Peacocks, seeded 15th, take on the Number 2 seed University of Kentucky. The Peacocks won 85-79 in overtime, knocking the eight-time champions out of the tournament. The Peacocks went on to play Number 7 seed Murray State, winning 70-60. It was during the post-game media session after this game that Peacocks Head Coach Shaheen Holloway gave us this now-famous quote: “I’ve got guys from New Jersey and New York City. You think we’re scared of anything?”

The Peacocks will play the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, March 25 at 7:09PM. The game will be aired on CBS, and in plenty of bars throughout Hoboken and Jersey City.
