South House’s spacious layout, charming farmhouse/eclectic decor, and delicious cocktails have made it a go-to in downtown Jersey City. Not to mention, it’s located on the Newark Avenue pedestrian strip, a great location for people out to paint the town.

“Somethings happening here…..what it is ain’t exactly clear,” the restaurant posted on Instagram on April 23rd. The post depicting Polaroids of Joaquin Phoenix – has the words “Rising Like A Pheonix” written across the top of the headshot.

The next post on May 8th had a similar teaser feel with the words “Rising Soon” over Joaquin Phoenix,  only this time, the caption read “Rising up… Back on the street… Did my time…Took my chances.”

Just last week, on May 29th, South House posted, “Everyone’s watching, to see what you will do… Everyone’s looking at you, oh… Everyone’s wondering, will you come out tonight… Everyone’s trying to get it right, get it right.” Leaving just enough crumbs to get locals excited for the next post, and hoping that it will be the grand reopening announcement.

Based on the post, the reopening was intended for the month of May, but as of June, South House has officially opened its doors again.
