Team Behind Cheech’s Bagels Opening Diner Concept in Jersey City

The Retreat Cannabis

As one Jersey City favorite is wrapping up its time on Grove Street, the new concept taking over the space is giving The Hoboken Girl a sneak peek at what to expect. Rosie’s is a new diner concept that will take over Frankie at 264 Grove Street this summer. The team plans to serve breakfast classics during the day and shift to cocktails and small bites during nights. Here’s what we know about Rosie’s, the new diner coming to Jersey City in summer 2026.

A Closer Look At Rosie’s

Rosie’s will be taking over the space that housed the Australian bar and restaurant, Frankie, in Jersey City. It’s a diner concept, looking to blend the comfort of breakfast and the elegance of a nice Friday night dinner. It comes from the team behind Cheech’s, a Jersey City bagel spot in the Hamilton Park neighborhood.

While the menu is still being finalized, the Rosie’s team says to expect diner classics during the day, like pancakes, eggs, coffee, and root beer floats. When the sun goes down, the team says the diner will take on a different energy, focusing on small bites, cocktails, natural wine, and good music. The team wants to create an environment that feels nostalgic, like your favorite diner growing up, with a moody edge. “Built for repeat visits, not just hype,” the team tells HG

The diner’s name is personal; the space is named after loved ones connected to each of the owners. The plan is to open the diner sometime during the summer of 2026.

Goodbye Frankie

Frankie opened on Grove Street in Jersey City in 2017. The Australian bar and restaurant crafted a menu of natural wines, cocktails, vegan and vegetarian eats. The owners, duo Rowen McDermott and Rebecca Johnson, built the space around their love of travel, coastal destinations, and Rowen’s hometown of Sydney, Australia. The restaurant will close its doors for good at the end of March 2026.

“We feel incredibly lucky for all the memories made within these walls; dancing till dawn, cheeky drink + draws, family diners, buzzing tables, big milestones, and quiet celebrations. We are proud to have stood together with the community in both bright and dark times, and thank you for making us a part of your lives,” they wrote on Instagram. “We are most grateful for the lifelong friendships formed here and for the extraordinary crew who gave this place its soul. It has truly been an honor to be your local!”

The duo will continue to run their other wine bars in Manhattan. Moonflower at 201 West 11th Street serves natural wines and small bites. Binx at 39 Christopher Street also serves natural wines with a dinner and brunch menu.

About Cheech’s Bagels

Cheech’s Bagels opened at 176 Erie Street in Jersey City in May of 2025. John Ballan and Gianluca Fernicola have been lifelong friends since high school and Jersey City residents for seven years. They saw the need for a go-to bagel spot in the neighborhood and created Cheech’s together. The Hamilton Park bagel spot is named after John’s loyal sidekick, Cheech, a tiny Chihuahua with a big personality. The menu features a wide selection of bagels, coffee, and breakfast, with the choice of specialty sandwiches, spreads, add-ons, and vegan options.
