Rig A Tony’s, a new pizzeria has officially opened in Downtown Jersey City, adding to the mix of places you can fulfill your late-night cravings. Located at 195 Newark Avenue, Rig A Tony’s took over the same spot where the former Cookies ‘N Crepes shop resided since it was founded in 2012. The official soft opening of the pizzeria took place on Black Friday, November 27th and as the owner Tony Stoebling put it, they’re “just getting started.”

Although there are many restaurants nearby that serve pizza {think Razza, Two Boots Pizza, Tony Boloney’s, Porta, Roman Nose, Helen’s Pizza, etc.}, the owner shares they have one special ingredient that sets them apart from the rest.

“We have homemade fresh mozzarella – probably the best fresh mozzarella around. We have hot dinners, we do a lot of cold subs, and we have pizza. Our pizzas are excellent,” Stoebling shared with Hoboken Girl.

While it’s too soon to tell what’s going to become their best-seller, Stoebling added that the mozzarella already has people buzzing. “Everyone seems to enjoy the mozzarella. Everyone’s talking about it,” he said. “Everyone’s coming in asking about it because they hear about it — I guess people are talking about [the mozzarella].”

Per their menu, you can surely expect to find mozzarella in many of their dishes. For pizzas, they offer various specialties like the Meat Lovers, Philly Cheese Steak, and Crumbled Sausage & Broccoli Rabe. They also have enticing appetizers like Disco Fries with mozzarella and gravy, mussels with marinara or white wine sauce, and buffalo wings.

In addition, you can find cold subs {like the Capicola, Prosciutto, Soppressata and Sharp Provolone}, hot subs, soups, salads, chicken/veal/seafood pasta dishes {such as the Lobster Ravioli, Shrimp Fra-Diavlo, and Chicken Piccata}, and traditional Italian desserts {cheesecake, cannoli, tiramisu, etc}.

Stoebling is currently operating the pizzeria by himself with the help of a small staff. Prior to opening Rig A Tony’s, he previously owned Buon Appetito in Bayonne for 20 years. And before that, he opened Buon Apetito on Grove Street in Downtown Jersey City before it was sold and moved locations to Columbus and Jersey Avenue after there was a major fire in the building.

In the coming week, Rig A Tony’s will be available for delivery through GrubHub, Seamless, and UberEats. For now, you can call for pick up and delivery on their mainline {201-434-3300}. They’ll be offering outdoor dining in the near future.

“We’re an Italian deli with a pizzeria in it so we have all the Italian specialties. I can tell you anything but you really gotta stop by and try it for yourself!” Stoebling shared.

Rig A Tony’s is now part of the new pizzerias that have opened recently in Jersey City. Washington, D.C.-based chain &pizza opened at 30 Montgomery Street and Jimmy’s Brooklyn Pizza opened in October at 305A Grove Street.
