Uptown Hoboken poke lovers, you’re in Hawaiian luck — if you’re into raw fish. Proven Poke Co — a poke bowl place with locations in Montclair, Asbury Park, Ocean Grove, and Hillsborough — is officially open in Hoboken as of Friday, April 19th.

And they don’t call themselves “Hawaiian Raw Fish Paradise” for nothing. Proven Poke Co.’s menu is ablaze with protein, topping, and add-on options and according to business owner Breana Van Rye, the key to Proven’s deliciousness is a simplicity.

Keeping it simple. That’s why many of our House Fav bowls only have a few ingredients. For example, our House Fav Nine bowl, which is a fan favorite, is ahi tuna, scallions, and onions,” Van Rye tells Hoboken Girl in an email.

“We dress it with soy and sesame oil and top it off with sesame seeds, nori strips, and seaweed salad. But of course, we love seeing our customers go wild and create their own poke masterpieces. That’s what’s great about BYO — you can create something specific for your own taste buds.”

The new poke spot opened at 1401 Hudson Street in Hoboken on Thursday, April 18th and will serve everything that those hungry for poke are looking for. With bowl options that include proteins like shrimp, tuna, salmon, avocado, crab, chicken, scallops, and octopus, there’s guaranteed something for everyone who stops by. {Yep, even vegetarians and vegans.}

Now for the veggies, fruits, and the works. Poke bowls can be made with any of the following toppings: jalapeño, cucumber, sweet onion, edamame, cilantro, shiso, pineapple, tomato, pickled ginger, hijiki seaweed, ogo seaweed, scallions, mango, sweet corn, red cabbage, and carrots.

And there’s more. Proven offers the following options for sauces: Proven’s Classic or Proven’s Spicy sauce, mayo, Hawaiian mayo, sweet chili sauce, sweet sesame, wasabi mayo, soy sauce, gluten-free soy sauce, citruz ponzu, yuzu kosho, and teriyaki.

Not to mention Proven’s secret ingredient menu, which includes crumbled Cheetos, Fritos, or Doritos.

All sauces at Proven are made in-house, a unique quality that sets Proven apart from other poke places.

“We put our own twist on poke through our house-made sauces,” Van Rye says. “We take a lot of pride in our sauces, which we make from scratch using only the best ingredients. We recently did a March Madness sauce bracket on social media, and our poke peeps voted Proven’s classic and Proven’s spicy mayo into the finals.”

“Classic won, which made us realize we have some bad-ass customers because Classic is our hottest sauce {habanero lime}, which certainly packs a punch!” Van Rye continues.

But the delicious sauces isn’t all patrons can expect from Proven. Even the ambiance is sure to please.

“Aloha vibes. Fun wallpaper. Vibrant colors. Kick-ass music. Friendly staff.  Our space may be small, but they say good things come in small packages — and we agree!” Van Rye says of the space and Proven vibe.

Proven also has a poke bowl for plant-based patrons and it’s one of its hottest sells according to the website. The Vegan AF bowl features every veggie-lovers dream assortment: tofu, edamame, pickled ginger, mango, sweet chili sauce, sesame seeds, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and avocado.

“We have lots to offer vegetarians and vegans! It may seem odd because poke is typically a raw fish dish, but we also offer avocado and tofu as two of our ‘mains,’ AKA proteins,” Van Rye says.

“Plus, we have 16 mix-ins that fall into the veggie/vegan category, and all of our sauces are vegetarian and eight are vegan. Our Vegan AF House Fav bowl is a must-try. It’s a delicious mix of sweet and savory: tofu, edamame, pickled ginger, mango, dressed in our sweet chili sauce and topped with sesame seeds, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and avocado.”

Proven’s soft opening kicked off this week, but will be closed Easter Sunday. Regular hours start on Monday, April 22nd and are as follows: Monday-Thursday from 10:45AM-9:00PM, Friday-Saturday from 10:45AM-10:00PM, and Sunday from 12:00PM-9:00PM.
