As residents of Hoboken and Jersey City, we know firsthand the power of our community. We rally together, show up for each other, and make a difference when it truly counts. That’s why we’re thrilled to share The Flow Initiative’s fourth annual period supplies drive with The Hoboken Girl — our biggest one yet, and we need you to help us reach our goal of securing 60,000 period products for people right here in Hoboken. Read on to learn more about Period Action Day and what you can do as a Hoboken resident.

October 12th is Period Action Day, and it’s our chance to make a powerful statement. At The Flow Initiative, we believe that no one should have to struggle to access menstrual health products, and here’s why we’re committed to ending period poverty in Hoboken:

Eradicating Stigma and Shame: No one should have to face the embarrassment of not having the necessary menstrual health products. By ensuring access, we provide dignified menstruation and support to people in Hoboken, so they can focus on living their lives without shame.

Increasing Education and Work Attendance: Lack of access to menstrual health products often means Hoboken residents missing school or work. For students and professionals in our community, this can disrupt their education and job opportunities. Providing these free menstrual health supplies helps residents stay engaged and productive.

Reducing Health Risks: Without proper menstrual health products, many people resort to using unsafe alternatives, especially those who are at-risk or unhoused in our community. This can unfortunately lead to serious health issues and infections. By making menstrual health products available to all, we protect the health and well-being of our Hoboken neighbors and friends.

Creating a More Inclusive Hoboken Community: Period poverty is a hidden issue, but it affects many people in our community — regardless of race, religion, or socioeconomic status. Addressing it head-on brings us together, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment where everyone’s needs are met.

Whether you’ve been a longtime supporter or are new to our work, this is the moment to join The Flow Initiative. From Ghana to Haiti, Puerto Rico to Turkey, we’ve helped thousands in need, while always keeping access to menstrual products in Hudson County and New Jersey on the forefront of our work.

You can support our fourth annual period product drive, and drop supplies at participating businesses locations. In addition to sharing our drive details on social media. By spreading the word, you help us reach our goal and expand our work in the Hoboken community.

Imagine the impact — 60,000 menstrual health products means more than just supplies. It means confidence for students, peace of mind for workers, and dignity for our Hoboken neighbors who might otherwise have to choose between essentials. And this is only possible when people like you step up.
