Say it with us, Hudson County: “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” You’re going to be hearing yourself recite that serenity prayer a lot this weekend, as the 33rd Street PATH Line is closing down for repairs all weekend long. More information on these closures below.
The Closures
One more time: The serenity to accept the things I cannot change…
All stations along the 33rd Street PATH Line — Christopher Street, 9th Street, 14th Street, 23rd Street, and 33rd Street — will be offline starting 12:01AM Saturday, January 25 until 5:00AM Monday, January 27. If you’re looking to head into Manhattan this weekend, your best bet is to utilize the Newark-World Trade Center line from Saturday to Monday.
These PATH closures may be inconvenient AF, but they sound like they’re for ‘good reason.’ According to the Port Authority of New Jersey and New York, these closures are due to “signal-related equipment installation and relocation.”
There are a few more closures you need to know about as well. The Hoboken and Newport stations will also be closing to “replace temporary signal equipment” with permanent equipment. Because of this equipment change, Hoboken and Newport will close starting 12:01AM Saturday, January 25th and are expecting to reopen 7:59AM on Sunday, January 26th.

Because the Hoboken PATH station itself will be closed, only direct service from Hoboken to World Trade will occur on Sunday. On Saturday, you’ll need to ride into WTC on the Newark or Journal Square line. Newport PATH station will also be closed {as it’s on the 33rd Street line}.
The good news is the World Trade Center line and the Newark-WTC line will operate as it normally does on the weekend. In addition to that, service from Journal Square to World Trade will also be running in an effort to accommodate as many Manhattan-bound Jersey riders as possible.
But Wait, There’s More
And that’s not all — there are incentives!
For riders using the World Trade Center line this upcoming weekend, you’ll receive a complimentary two-ride MetroCard as an offset from the inconvenience of PATH closing down the 33rd Street Line. A complimentary MetroCard? We’ll take it!
To claim your complimentary MetroCard, PATH information agents and supervisors will be distributing the MetroCards inside the WTC station. These two-ride MetroCards are valid for this weekend only.

In order to smooth out the inconvenience a 33rd Street Line closure causes, New Jersey Transit will also be cross-honoring PATH customers until 7:59AM Sunday morning on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail between, Hoboken, Newport, and Exchange Place. That means during the outage period, you can use your PATH card to alternatively take the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.
