Once a pet passes an exam, the Oradell team asks that the owner commit to a minimum of four donations over a one-year period.
The Donation Process
We had a chance to see how the Oradell Animal Hospital blood donation process works with Finnley, a furry friend who experienced his very first blood donation. The Oradell team started by taking a weight measurement, blood work, and a physical assessment. Finnley was then gently given sedation and eye lubrication to make the process comfortable and smooth while having his blood pressure monitored with equipment.
Finnley’s donation took about 15 minutes, and once it was complete, the Oradell team provided supportive care, including a nail trim, fluids, and an ear cleaning. (although Finnley didn’t need one!) A pressure wrap was used to prevent bruising and swelling, and he was then given a reverse medication to begin the wake-up process. Once he was awake and comfortable, he was ready to head home a hero.
