Fake spring seems to have arrived in the Hudson County area, if you consider 40-degree weather spring-like (but this snowstorm has us back to our SAD). We have several headlines for you this week, including some Hoboken + Jersey City restaurant closures, new leadership at Hoboken City Hall, and a dog attack at a local ShopRite.

– Forecasters are warning that Hudson County could see another foot of snow starting Sunday evening, Feb 22nd. (The Hoboken Girl).

– Ahead of a winter storm on Sunday, February 22nd, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has declared a state of emergency. A blizzard warning has been declared for many New Jersey counties (Office of the Governor).

Baonanas in Jersey City is officially closing after nearly 12 years, citing rising costs and the increasingly tough restaurant landscape. (The Hoboken Girl).

– Hoboken secured $850K in federal funding to help mitigate flooding and strengthen the city’s resiliency efforts (Press Release).

– Mayor Jabbour launches new 2026 budget process after S&P Global Ratings assigned “a negative outlook” to Hoboken’s bond rating (City of Hoboken).

– Chinese restaurant Lo Fatt Chow is reportedly moving out of Hoboken, with rumors of Secaucus as its new locale (The Hoboken Girl). 

Indie film legend John Sayles’s former Hoboken home sparked a bidding war, selling for more than $2.5 million shortly after hitting the market (Patch). 

– A Hoboken man was arrested and charged with narcotics offenses after an investigation at a Jackson Street apartment (Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office).

– New Jersey overdose deaths fell to a five-year low in 2025, down 27% from last year and more than 50% from pandemic peak (Partnership For A Drug Free New Jersey).

Stevens Institute of Technology installed a high-resolution radar on its Hoboken campus to provide real-time severe weather warnings in the NYC metro. (Stevens Institute of Technology).

Several Hudson County cities, including Hoboken and Jersey Cit,y have issued executive orders limiting ICE activity on public property (The Hoboken Girl).

-A planned FIFA World Cup fan festival at Liberty State Park in Jersey City has been canceled, with organizers instead planning a series of statewide community events (The Hoboken Girl).

Jersey City has approved a major new development at 115 Giles Avenue that will add hundreds of residential units and retail space to the growing Marion neighborhood (Jersey Digs).

Major bridge work on the Portal Bridge for NJ Transit and Amtrak is underway and expected to disrupt commuter rail service for several weeks (njtransit.com).

Jersey City Mayor James Solomon has ordered a rent control audit and pushed for maximum penalties on housing code violations as part of broader efforts to enforce tenant protections (Hudson County View).

– New Jersey’s governor, Mikie Sherrill, signed an executive order banning most U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities on state property without a judicial warrant and launched online resources for residents to report ICE interactions (The Local Girl).

– Several Hudson County cities and the county government have issued executive orders restricting ICE and other federal immigration enforcement activities on local public property, generally barring their use for staging or operations absent a valid judicial warrant (The Hoboken Girl). 

Ubu, a Hoboken sushi restaurant located at 205 Hudson Street since 1996, has closed its doors (The Hoboken Girl).
