What’s the Weather in New Jersey for Memorial Day Weekend?

The Retreat Cannabis

As New Jersey residents, we’re already spiraling over the Memorial Day Weekend forecast, but honestly, this week’s temps really were a tease.  90 degrees had us fully convinced that summer had officially arrived (despite being a bit too hot, tbh), but the weather is now pulling a complete 180 just in time for MDW in New Jersey. Read on to see the weather forecast for Memorial Day Weekend in New Jersey.

What’s the Weather in NJ?

Current forecasts for Memorial Day Weekend are calling for a cool, cloudy, and potentially rainy sitch across much of the state, especially on Saturday, with temps dipping into the upper 50s and low 60s in parts of North Jersey and the rain percentages all above 50%. According to the latest forecasts, Friday is shaping up to be the transition day after this week’s extreme heat. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly across the state, with highs mostly landing in the low-to-mid 60s around Hoboken, Jersey City, Bergen County, Montclair, and the surrounding North Jersey area. The Jersey Shore will be the same, unfortunately.

And while Friday itself may stay mostly dry with some clouds and sun mixed in, the real concern is Saturday, where the roughest weather day will be on deck. Forecasts are currently predicting periods of rain, cloudy skies, gusty winds at times, and temperatures barely reaching the upper 50s in some areas.

Down the shore, beach towns like Point Pleasant, Asbury Park, Long Beach Island, and Wildwood may see slightly warmer temperatures, but not by much, and definitely not the kind of weather we picture for the unofficial start of summer (every year, I swear!).

But, the likely scenario is that the weather won’t stop anyone; shore traffic will still happen, Parker House will still be packed, and Kohr’s will have a line out the door (sweatshirts/umbrellas in hand). And if you’re staying local in North Jersey, it’s a good time to discover a new coffee or food spot, organize and declutter a closet, or get some reading and show-catch-up done (Summer House Reunion *is* next week after all).

This is all to say: Memorial Day Weekend forecasts in New Jersey are notoriously unpredictable, especially several days out.

Meteorologists are still watching the timing of a coastal system moving through the Northeast, meaning conditions could shift over the next few days. SO, there’s still a ~chance~ portions of Sunday and Monday end up much nicer than currently expected, with warmer temperatures, partial sunshine, and only scattered showers versus a full day of rain.

But as of now, Sunday appears slightly more promising, with temps potentially getting closer to the upper 60s and low 70s across much of the state. Monday is looking similar, with a mix of clouds and sun alongside the possibility of isolated rain showers.  Of course, the internet is handling this forecast normally (we kid, we kid).

There are currently many a TikToker summoning Etsy weather witches due to the emotional devastation of a rainy Memorial Day Weekend (brides and grooms, we feel you!). But the most ironic part of this is that Memorial Day Weekend weather in New Jersey almost always ends up like this. Every. single. year: we convince ourselves that summer starts the second temperatures hit 85 in May, only for MDW to arrive with wind, clouds, and rain.

So for now, the best strategy may simply be emotional flexibility (aka keep the beach plans tentative,  bring both a bathing suit and a hoodie, mentally prepare for every possible climate condition within a 48-hour span). And if all else fails, perhaps the Etsy weather witches really are our last hope!!
