You Must Visit These New Jersey Flower Farms

There’s a reason New Jersey is called the Garden State, and that reason is New Jersey farms. For the aesthetics lover, or just for a weekend activity, viewing flowers can be a great outing for couples, families, or friends in New Jersey. Be it annuals, perennials, traditional flowers like sunflowers and tulips or lavender —or just a good photo op — bringing home beautiful, sweet-smelling souvenirs is a wonderful way to make the memories last a little longer. Read on for a list of flower farms in New Jersey — some not far from Hoboken + Jersey City.

Alan’s Flower Farm | 120 Sykesville Road, Chesterfield — Sunflowers, Dahlias, Peonies, Lavender, Hydrangeas

On 165 acres of land, Alan’s Flower Farm grows a variety of florals, including sunflowers, dahlias, peonies, lavender, hydrangeas, and mixed bouquets, among other summer annual flowers. They have an array of flowers that are available from May to October.

Alstede Farms | 1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester — Various Florals

Zap Fitness

Flowers are available for picking at this family-run farm from July through mid-September, but fruits, vegetables, and other crops are available for picking at different times throughout the year. The farm also participates in initiatives that give back to their community, including donations to local organizations.

Dalton Farms | 660 Oak Grove Road, Swedesboro — Tulips + Sunflowers

Flower picking season starts early as April when the tulips are in full bloom. Then, the sunflower season begins in the summer months. But, honey from this family farm is available year-round, as well as custom designs by Master Fabricator and Woodsmith Jeff Kehoe.

Hill Creek Farms | 1631 State Highway 45, Mullica Hill — Sunflowers

The New York Times spotlighted this farm, established in 1956, as one of the best in the greater New York City area. This one-stop-shop comes complete with a wine garden, farmer’s market, bakery, and more. Apple picking as well as apple cider and apple cider doughnuts to purchase are also available, as well as event spaces, cornstalks, and barrel train rides.

Holland Ridge Farms | 86 Rues Road, Cream Ridge — Tulips + Sunflowers

While tulip season JUST ended at Holland Ridge, it’s one of the premier spots for DIY flower picking in the area. The farm also has sunflowers that kick off in the fall months.

Johnson’s Locust Hall Farm | 2691 Monmouth Road, Jobstown — Sunflowers

This 17th Century preserved farm carries a bunch of rustic charm, and activities include strawberry picking, evenings on the farm {complete with live music} and, come to the end of June, sunflower picking, that lasts all the way to Sunflower September. 

Von Thun Farms | 438 Route 57 West, Washington — Sunflowers

The farm’s sunflower trail opens for the summer and costs $10.99 per person on the weekends {and $7.99 on the weekdays}. Admission includes access to the barn, a hayride tour around the farm, and photo op areas through hayrides that are not available during the week. Cutting sunflowers is an additional cost of $6 for three stems, and then $3 per stem.
