Moloney’s Meat Market, the oldest butcher shop in Hudson County, located at 627 Newark Avenue is a true staple in the community. Since being built in 1875, generations of locals have stopped into the market for fresh, high-quality poultry and meat products. The family-owned and operated Irish market has been operated by Tom Moloney for decades. Hoboken Girl readers have shared their concerns that Moloney’s may have closed or will be – here’s what we know.

“Our customers are what have kept us in business for four generations” the founder, Tom Moloney said in a statement on the website. “We do everything to make sure our meat market has the best quality meats, cut and prepared the way our customers like it so they enjoy a delicious meal.”

The old-fashioned shop offers a selection of beef, pork, chicken, veal, lamb as well as seafood, Italian ravioli, Irish specialty foods, fresh deli meats, homemade salads, homemade soups, daily lunch specials, and more. Some of the cuts include rib eye, N.Y. strip, porterhouse, sirloin, corned beef, oxtail, and goat. Some of the “wild-caught” meat options include alligator, wild boar, and rabbit.

Like many old-school businesses, the shop doesn’t have much of a social media presence. Aside from the website, Moloney’s has a Facebook page, however, it hasn’t been active since 2018.

No one has answered the shop’s phone recently, according to readers. Additionally, one reader shared, “I was there on Saturday, September 9/25. Almost everything was on sale and they returned my Thanksgiving Turkey deposit.”

We can confirm after calling ourselves, that the number is active but no one has picked up our phone calls and the voicemailbox is full. We were unable to get official confirmation if Moloney’s is officially closing or on a hiatus but we will keep you updated as more details unfold.
