It’s been over two years since the beloved Hoboken spot, The Dubliner, closed its doors at 96 River Street — and earlier this year, we broke the news that a new restaurant + wine bar called Metropolis is taking over the space. Since then, locals have anticipated the return of Hoboken’s only downtown rooftop, and Metropolis’ Instagram teasers suggest that this comeback is closer than ever. Back in January 2023, The Hoboken Girl chatted with the new owners of Metropolis to learn more about their vision. Read on for what we know about the new Metropolis spot in Hoboken.

About The Space

The Dubliner was one of the few spaces in Hoboken with a rooftop, and the new restaurant will continue to make use of this outdoor space. The three-story building located at 96 Hudson Street is a short walk from the Hoboken PATH Station, which made it a popular destination, especially for the post-work crowd. Metropolis, however, not only plans to provide a great space for watching sports, but will also include a full restaurant, a wine + cocktail bar, and a spot for rooftop brunch.

The new owner of the space is Amine Chenguiti, who is no stranger to the Hoboken restaurant and bar scene. Amine is also the owner of Belo Bar, located at 104 Hudson Street, around the corner from The Dubliner. Amine said, “As we already have a successful cocktail bar, I am personally a wine lover and I did not know of a wine bar in the downtown area so what better way to bring that to life than at Metropolis.”

The concept for Metropolis leverages the physical attributes of the space to play up its offerings. Even though the space is being renovated to match the new concept, the team plans to include the traditional architectural elements that make the building unique to Hoboken. The first floor will be a traditional, sit-down restaurant + wine bar. The greenhouse-style section walled with windows will be a special seating area where diners can overlook the streets of Hoboken. The menu on the first floor will offer pasta, chicken, meat, and seafood in addition to a full bar.

The second floor will be more of a laid-back vibe. There will be big TVs for sports, cozy loveseats, and live entertainment weekly. The food menu on the second floor will be elevated bar food including wings, dips, + more.

The rooftop at Metropolis will be open year-round and the team plans to go all out with seasonal decorations. The team plans to provide an incredible brunch on the roof. While details are still being finalized, diners can anticipate a creative menu plus champagne specials.

On the first floor, Metropolis will have a next-level wine list. We’re told patrons will be able to find wines here that can’t be found elsewhere in Hoboken alongside a full bar with cocktails. There is currently no official opening but updates can be found on their Instagram page.
