For parents — family life in Hudson County can be busy and feel like it’s passing you by, even if the days (or newborn nights) can seem to last forever. Capturing a moment in time can help families cherish the small moments for years to come, which is why Mac and Jennifer Hartshorn launched Hartshorn Portraiture, a photography studio specializing in family, maternity, and newborn photography located at 720 Monroe Street, Suite E418 in Hoboken. Keep reading to learn about the creative minds behind the business and the exclusive offer for The Hoboken Girl readers.
Mac and Jennifer Hartshorn met 25 years ago, working on the set at a photoshoot for Cosmopolitan Magazine. After getting married, they left the hustle and bustle of Miami to find a balance between work and family life in Hoboken. They soon found themselves at home with two kids under two years old, which only further solidified their love of capturing family moments.
As the matriarch behind the business, Jennifer brings her charm and a keen eye for design, which perfectly complements Mac’s expert photography skills, honed by 30 years of experience.
“Hartshorn Portraiture was born out of the desire to keep our family close and connected while pursuing our passions. We like to think of ourselves as ‘family-preneurs’. Our business is all about families because that is our driving force,” Jennifer told Hoboken Girl. “At Hartshorn Portraiture, we believe in the power of artfully capturing life’s most treasured moments and turning them into heirloom art. We create treasured pieces with a focus on exceptional quality and design.”
Hartshorn Portraiture specializes in maternity and newborn sessions, capturing the sweet moments before and after families welcome a new member. What sets Hartshorn Portraiture apart from other family and newborn photography studios is the luxurious, full-service experience customers enjoy in the studio, located in the Monroe Center.
“From the moment we meet to when you unwrap your magnificent, custom-designed pieces of art, a relationship is formed that goes far beyond our service,” Jennifer shared. “Our clients become a part of our family.”
The Driving Force Behind Hartshorn Portraiture
Jennifer and Mac built the Hartshorn Portraiture studio on three pillars: quality, customer service, and a deep appreciation for memorializing moments in time.
“It is our hope that you share in the love and passion of what we do and who we are. We have created a gorgeous, sun-drenched studio where fine-art photography meets a family-friendly atmosphere, resulting in the most luxurious and indulgent photographic experience,” Jennifer mentioned. “Life is busy, and we are filled with and fueled by our gratitude to be entrusted with your family’s precious time and memories.”
The Client Experience
From start to finish, the Hartshorn team has every detail taken care of. From wardrobe options to the framing choices for prints, the entire experience is one of attention and care. The studio has a collection of beautiful custom gowns that will showcase your growing belly and luxe, textured blankets to swaddle your bundle of joy.
Prior to the photoshoot session, Mac and Jennifer consult with each client regarding wardrobe choice, and if requested, hair and makeup recommendations. The full-service experience from beginning to end also includes Jennifer’s interior design expertise to select what will work best in your home when it comes to custom framing.
When the day arrives, the client receives the photographer’s full attention while also having fun. Families immediately feel at ease and natural as they laugh, smile, and make memories that will soon be captured as masterpieces. This 45-minute portrait session is $550.
After the shoot, Mac’s expertise and artistry truly come into play as he curates a collection of the most powerful images which best capture the essence of the client’s family. Hartshorn Portraiture handles editing and printing in-house to ensure clients receive the very best quality photographic prints for each treasured portrait.
Once the final selections are made, the client meets with Jennifer who creates a ‘date night’ atmosphere in the Hoboken studio. Over wine and cheese clients view a slideshow of images from their session and make the final selection.
Hartshorn Portraiture specializes in fine art pieces such as canvases and giclée watercolors. Giclée printing is a process that uses fade-resistant, archival inks to produce museum-quality prints. These heirloom pieces are signed by the photographer and will be a beautiful reminder for as long as you keep them on your wall.
Health + Safety in the Studio
For the safety of families and staff, newborn sessions and maternity sessions remain in the studio while families with older children will have sessions on location. All shoots are conscious of social distancing and masks will be worn by staff who are vaccinated. As always, clients are seen by appointment only.
Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the studio and there is frequent sanitization of surfaces during and in-between each client session. If you or someone in your family is feeling unwell, Hartshorn Portraiture will be glad to reschedule your appointment.
Don’t forget to mention Hoboken Girl to receive $200 OFF a portrait session in February or March. This deal expires on Thursday, March 31st.
