We are spoiled for choices when it comes to great Mexican food in the Hudson County area, and the number of local options is just about to grow. The co-owners of one local favorite, Orale Mexican Kitchen — which has locations in both Hoboken and Jersey City —  are embarking on a brand new project. The team will be opening up a new restaurant called Madre at 333 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, right near White Eagle Hall. This new spot will also be right near the soon-to-open Madame, otherwise known as the former Madame Claude Bis. While we don’t have a ton of details just yet, we know that the storefront has a liquor license which suggests the presence of a bar — and we’re also safe to assume the restaurant will likely serve Mexican-inspired eats. We’ve covered what you need to know about this latest restaurant set to hit the Jersey City scene sometime soon. Read on to learn more about Madre, opening soon in Jersey City.

All About Madre

Jersey Digs reported that an application was recently filed by HECHO G&B 1 LLC to Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, requesting to move a liquor license to the 333 Newark Avenue space in Jersey City. The notice also relayed that the business looking to move in would be operating under the name Madre.

As it turns out, the majority ownership of HECHO G&B 1 LLC  belongs to Alexander Mendelsohn and Louis Alvarez, the team behind Orale Mexican Kitchen. Based on this information — along with the name of the new project — many are assuming this new restaurant will also serve Mexican-inspired eats. What’s more, the presence of the liquor license application also suggests a bar — and if Madre’s drinks are anything like Orale’s, we’ll be stoked.

There’s not a ton of information about this new restaurant as of right now. There’s no opening date nor does there appear to be any established social media presence just yet — but according to Jersey Digs, construction paper has already gone up on the 333 Newark Avenue storefront, so hopefully this spot will be opening sometime in the near future. We’ll keep you posted as soon as more information is released.

About Orale Mexican Kitchen

Orale owners Louis Alvarez and Alex Mendelsohn first got their feet wet by working at Rosa Mexicano, a Mexican restaurant with locations throughout NYC and beyond. After years working there, the duo ventured to open their own restaurant — Orale — at 341 Grove Street in Jersey City. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, and the rest, as they say, is history. With bold flavors, a uniquely colorful interior, killer guac, and fun cocktails, it’s not hard to understand the business’ popularity.

In late 2018, Orale expanded to uptown Hoboken where it now lives at 1426 Willow Avenue. It has since also opened a Morristown location as well, located at 56 South Street.

From must-try tacos to shareable apps and a long list of guacamole options, Orale Mexican Kitchen has definitely made a name for itself in the area — and we can’t wait to see its new sister restaurant.
