The Macy’s 4th of July fireworks are back for 2026, and unlike 2025, locals along the Hudson River will have a front-row view of the show. Macy’s just announced details surrounding the 50th anniversary celebration of the fireworks and the 250th celebration of America, which will take place on Saturday, July 4th, 2026. While official viewing locations and event programming are still being finalized, the fireworks will expand to both the lower East River and the lower Hudson River in collaboration with Jersey City, meaning they’ll likely be visible from spots in Hoboken and Jersey City. Keep reading for more details surrounding the 2026 Macy’s 4th of July fireworks, which will be visible from the Hudson River again this year.
The Details
This year marks the 50th year anniversary of the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks, and the display is expected to be its biggest yet. According to a statement from Macy’s on May 15th, the display “will expand to both the lower East River in the Seaport District, the lower Hudson River in collaboration with Jersey City, and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, creating a shared experience that connects more communities than ever.” Additional details on public viewing, talent performances, and more will be announced in the coming weeks.
For years, the fireworks have alternated between the East River and the Hudson River, with the Hudson River location historically giving Hoboken + Jersey City residents some of the best views of the display. In 2024, the display returned to the Hudson River for the first time in nearly a decade, only to once again relocate to the East River in 2025.
East River and all, Hudson County locals never missed out on a 4th of July celebration. Jersey City has hosted its annual 4th of July Festival + Fireworks Spectacular for years, an all-day celebration concluding with a fireworks display at the Exchange Place waterfront. America 250, an organization coordinating the 250th anniversary, lists the Festival + Fireworks spectacular on its programming for 2026, but the city hasn’t put out any official plans. We contacted Jersey City officials and will update this piece upon receiving a response.
It’s unclear if Jersey City will have its own fireworks or if the Macy’s fireworks will supplement the annual tradition. It’s also unclear how low on the Hudson River the fireworks will be, and where in Hoboken + Jersey City they’ll be visible from. Of course, we’ll update this piece as more details unfold.
