Hudson + Asher is a shop specializing in “fun, comfy clothes for babies, kids, + adults that celebrate our neighborhoods,” according to its Instagram bio. All of its items, from T-shirts to hoodies to hats, are handmade by the shop’s owners and are Hoboken and Jersey City-themed. The HG team got our hands on Hudson + Asher’s Mile Square-themed baby onesies, which can be found online and at Washington General Store, located at 509 Washington Street, Hoboken.

Hudson Park Boutique is a Hoboken-born online candle shop selling soy-wax candles. On its website, shoppers can find a wide range of handmade scents from fall favorites like Pumpkin Chai to summer must-haves like Tomato Basil. Drawing inspiration from the Mile Square, Hudson Park Boutique also sells Hoboken-themed scents like “Hoboken,” a blend of santal and coconut, and “Pier Pleasure,” which the website describes as smelling like “Sunday scaries on Sinatra Drive” — IYKYK.

Butterfly Knit by Lisa is a Weehawken-based knitting business selling handmade bags of all different styles. As this business’s Instagram bio says, “everything is one of a kind,” whether it be a crossbody bag, a handheld bag, or a large purse. Butterfly Knit by Lisa also has a YouTube account featuring beginner-friendly knitting tutorials, so locals can try out the craft themselves.
Dog Collars + Bracelets from Bead Bar Shop | Across Hoboken + Jersey City
Bead Bar Shop is a woman-owned dog collar shop run by fellow pup lovers and local residents Katie Birch and Gaby Fadl. Katie and Gaby craft the dog collars by hand using silicone beads and charms. The duo also sells custom beaded poop bag holders and matching friendship bracelets for humans. Bead Bar Shop can be found on Etsy and at various events and pop-ups throughout Jersey City and Hoboken.

Its founders believe in the “value of transparency, integrity, and creativity,” per its website, which is why all of its products are “paw-picked” and tested by its quality assurance team, aka the owners’ pups Douglas, Walter, and Comet. At Lil’ Dove, a Jersey City cafe, locals can shop for more than just coffee and treats. The shop carries handmade cards for every occasion, plus a selection of cute stickers to go along with them. To the HG team, there’s something extra special about a locally made card, crafted with care and intention, that just feels more personal than anything you’d find at a big-box store.
Sea Glass Jewelry from Alessea by Mara | Online
Alessea by Mara is a jewelry company founded by Hoboken resident Marietta Alessi. Marietta handmakes necklaces, rings, bracelets, anklets, earrings, cufflinks, and even pendants for dogs — all of which are made from natural sea glass found at the Jersey Shore. Her wearable art can be found online on Etsy and Instagram and locally at Luna Rosa (1218 Washington Street, Hoboken) and The Handmade Market in Jersey City.

BBQ Sauces from Hoboken Eddie’s | Online + In Stores Across the Country
You may have spotted this item while browsing the condiment aisle at your local grocery store — we certainly did at the ShopRite in Warwick, New York. Hoboken Eddie’s is an all-natural, vegan barbecue sauce brand created by Chef Edmund Patrick “Hoboken Eddie” McCarthy. While Edmund is now based in Warwick, he draws inspiration for all his creations from the place he previously called home, aka the Mile Square. According to the Warwick Advertiser, Edmund opened a BBQ restaurant called Hoboken Eddie’s in 1994 at 102 6th Street. That is where he began serving his homemade sauce. In 2000, he closed up shop and shifted his focus to selling his Hoboken-inspired sauces from home. Flavors come in options like BBQ Corn on the Cob, Kamikaze Kielbasa, The Harley Attack Dog, and many more. Along with grocery stores across the country, this product is also sold at Empire Coffee + Tea at 338 Bloomfield Street.
