September is here! We can’t believe it either. Summer is winding down and fall is around the corner. But one thing that is not changing is the great live music in Hudson County. Check out what music events are happening in Hoboken and Jersey City throughout September 2018:

September 1st—Lipstick Fiction/ Primitive Lips/ The Salt Rose/ Gherdty at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street Jersey City}

Hailing from a variety of cities, these bands are ready to rock the stage and start the month off right. Tickets are just $8. Check the FM site for more information on door opening times.

September 4 — Backroom Broadsides at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue Jersey City}

Spoken Word has been around for decades now, but is making a splash at bars, lounges, and clubs even more so recently. Backroom Broadsides is a spoken word series presented by James Ruggia & the Riverview Neighborhood Association. During this series, attendees have the chance to showcase their own work during the Open Mic portion {keep your performance 3-5 minutes please} followed by two featured speakers. This month’s speakers are Nancy Mercado and Danny Shot. The Parlour Room opens at 7:30PM with Open Mic starting at 8:00PM. The featured speakers will perform after Open Mic. The best news—the event is free.

September 6 — Hugh Pool at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue Jersey City}

Taking a trip across the river from Williamsburg, Hugh Pool will be bringing a unique rock sound to Jersey City this month. His sound is a blend of his mid-western roots and NYC giving an eclectic rock, blues, and county feel with a sprinkle of the trendy city. The show is from 8:00PM-10:00PM.

Turning American Folk into engaging and emotion-filled music is no easy task. But, McKain Lakey does it beautifully. She takes the oppression and empowerment of American Folk and tells the story of our nation through her music. JEB Lawrence is JEB Jones with Erik Lawrence—a combination of friends who all share a deep love of music, simplistic melodies and beautiful harmonies. Both acts will be playing at Fox & Crow this month. The show is from 9:30PM-12:00AM.

September 7th –Sloan at White Eagle Hall — White Eagle Hall {337 Newark Avenue Jersey City}

Canada’s great power-pop band is headed to Hudson County for the release of their first album in four years, 12 which has also become their most successful of their 2+ decade career. Tickets are $25 with doors opening at 8:00PM.

September 7 — Alex Sensation at Hudson Ultra Bar {16 Hudson Place Hoboken}

Join Hudson Ultra Bar for their Fall Grand Opening featuring Alex Sensation. As trips to the Jersey Shore come to an end, HUB will keep the fun going this fall with their VidaFridays session to start the weekend with a bang. Alex Sensations will be spinning on the turn tables to keep the dance floor lit. Doors open at 9pm and the music doesn’t stop until 3am.

September 7th — Take Your Shoes off LIVE at Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street Hoboken}

Fall is here and a favorite spot for live music is back. You can not only enjoy a night of dancing with this local band, but you can call ahead for a free limo ride and no cover charge (201-681-7550)

September 7 — McKain Lakey and JEB Lawrence at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue Jersey City}

Going back to school is not just for the kids this year. Join the likes of Power Trip, Buried Alive, Folly, Death Threat, Indecision, Red Death, Nosebleed, Magnitude, Antagonize, Fiddlehead, and more for a full night of rocking out. September 8th — Lost Balloons, Pale Angels, & Character Actor at Monty Hall {43 Montgomery Street}

For some, building a successful band with friends is nothing more than a dream. For these three bands, it is a reality. Each band is ready to share their mainly pop-rock tunes. Doors open at 7:30PM and tickets are $10.

September 8th — Lifespeed At Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street Hoboken}

New Jersey’s premier cover band is wrapping up their summer tour right here in Hoboken. Classic hits from the likes of Backstreet Boys, Green Day, Justin Bieber, and even Rihanna could be covered on any night. Band goes live at 11:00PM.

September 13 — Adam Melchor at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue Jersey City}

Adam Melchor is a New Jersey native whose guitar skills and smooth vocals can impress any crowd. The combination of Americana, folk and alternative music creates a unique sound for an enjoyable evening. The show is from 8:00PM-10:00PM.

September 14 — JamieRose and Davey & the Trainwreck co-bill at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City}

The perfect combination. JamieRose offers lyrical rock with strong melodies while Davey & the Trainwreck combines influences from Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Steve Earl to create their own sound. Both bands will be gracing the Fox & Crow stage this month for a show that is not to be missed. Check them out from 10:00PM-12:00AM.

September 14 — Mystic Braves & Creation Factory at Monty Hall {43 Montgomery Street, Jersey City}

A night for those still stuck in the 1960s—get that psychedelia flow going for a groovy good time. Coming off of sold out tours and national appearances, these bands are no strangers to large crowds. Grab $15 tickets and arrive for doors to open at 8:00PM.

September 14th — Aftershock at Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street, Hoboken}

Live music is back at this top Hoboken spot with no cover and free limo rides offered to all. Be sure to call ahead for ride at 201-681-7550. Music begins at 11:00PM.

September 15th — The Benjamins At Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street, Hoboken}

When their tag line is “high-energy entertainment from NJ”, it has to be good. And their fans agree — performing over 300 shows a year, Hoboken is just one stop of many. Check out this coveted group starting at 11:00PM.

September 15th — Joseph with Kelsey Kopecky at White Eagle Hall {337 Newark Avenue, Jersey City}

Most siblings say they would fight if they worked together but this trio is debunking that myth. Allison, Meegan, and Natalie Closner—better known as Joseph, are hitting the stage to share their 11-track album I’m Alone, No You’re Not. Tickets are on sale now for $25. Doors open at 7:00PM and the show starts at 8:00PM.

September 15th — DJ Shortkutz at Hudson Ultra Bar {16 Hudson Place Hoboken}

While watching Canelo and Golovkin duke it out during one of the fall’s biggest fights, jam to DJ Shortkutz at Hudson Ultra Bar. He is one of NYC’s premier DJs and has spun for stars like Heidi Klum, Chris Brown, 50 Cent and Jay-Z. Doors open at 9:00PM and the hits will be playing until 3:00AM.

September 15th — The Defending Champions at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

Regulars to the stage at FM, The Defending Champions are back to rock out with Hudson County for a two-jam set. Tickets are just $7.

September 15th — “Sound & Vision” at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

For lovers of this event, it has a new home. Whether you are a veteran or new to this event, come out for a night a dancing with other alternative music fans in the tri-state area. Tickets can be purchased for $5 through Eventbrite or at the door.

September 16th — Mason Jennings at White Eagle Hall {337 Newark Avenue, Jersey City}

Songs from When We Met –Jennings’ newest album was released earlier this year and he is ready to share with fans. Tickets are live now for $20 — doors open at 6:00PM.

September 19th — The Big Swim/ Quality Living/ Ruby Bones at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

Threes company with this powerhouse trio. Head over to JC for a night of great music. Tickets are just $7.

September 20 — Spaghetti Sessions Songwriter Showcase at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City}

Calling all songwriters! The Spaghetti Sessions Songwriter Showcase is a monthly event that brings together the area’s singer/songwriters and gives them a platform to perform their originals. Most performers have developed their talent through this series and are excited to share their music with those who have the same passion. In existence since 2011, this is a peer-to-peer review opportunity for those looking to improve on their skills or just get feedback. The session will start at 8:00PM and will last about two hours.

September 21st — Uncle Ebenezer-A Tribute to Phish at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

Calling all Phish fans. For a night honoring one of music’s greats and a fun time, check out FM starting at 9:00PM. Tickets on sale online

September 21st — Ray Corvair at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City}

Fun fact: not one person in the Ray Corvair instrumental trio is actually named Ray. Instead, the band is made up of Chris Dyas (guitarist), Larry Heinemann (bassist), and Mike Savage (drummer). The three met while performing for The Blue Man Group in NYC and has taken their love for music and friendship to new heights by performing together for decades. They did a show at this location earlier this year and it was a hit. Check them out again from 10:00PM to midnight.

September 21st — Hayward Live at Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street, Hoboken}

For the Bluegrass lover in you. Come out for a night of downtown hoedowns, a blending of voices, and harmonic sounds. In true Willie McBride’s fashion, there is no cover charge and the show starts at 11:00PM.

September 22 — Karyn Kuhl at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City}

Hailing from Hoboken, NJ, performing in Hudson County is a hometown special for Karyn Kuhl. “The Stars Will Bring You Home” is her latest EP and it tells the tale of resilience over loss in a bluesy way. She will be performing at Fox & Crow from 10:00PM-12:00AM.

September 22nd — Almost Easy Live at Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street, Hoboken}

If classic jams and the newest hits had a baby, it would be Almost Easy. Band members hail from all around the tri-state area and are headed home to NJ. Be ready for a super high energy performance. The fun will begin at 11:00PM.

September 22-23rd — Francisco Russo (juglar del heroismo Paraguayo) at White Eagle Hall {337 Newark Avenue Jersey City}

A special two-night event for this real-life guitar hero. Tickets range from $50-$65 and show starts at 8:30PM.

September 27th — CC Roots, The Randy Haze Trio & The Newarkansans at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

Another night of musical bliss. These three bands are bringing their best and rocking with their fans. Tickets start at just $7 and the show starts at 9:00PM.

September 28th — Molten, Twin God, and Nihiloceros at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

Every fan wants to feel part of an exclusive crowd—this event offers just that. Join Molten for their single release party and hang around to see all acts for the night. Show runs from 8:00PM-11:00PM.

September 28th — Brian Kirk and the Jirks at Willie McBride’s {616 Grand Street, Hoboken}

A Hoboken crowd favorite is back to get the Fall started right. As one of the only East Coast bands to boost a 2 decade+ career span, Brian knows how to get a crowd rocking. Sitting back and relaxing during this performance isn’t an option, and you won’t want it to be. Head on over starting at 11:00PM to jam out to all the classics.

September 29th –10th Anniversary Swap-Stravaganza at FM Restaurant Bar and Lounge {340 Third Street, Jersey City}

Regulars of this music hot spot are going to love this. FM is inviting all songwriters who have swapped their songs over the last 10 years to come back for a night of reminiscing and music playing. Performers have already been solidified, but crowds can enjoy local music from 4:30PM-7:30PM.

September 29th — DJ Camilo at Hudson Ultra Bar {16 Hudson Place, Hoboken}

Hot 97’s own DJ Camilo will be on the 1s and 2s at Hudson Ultra Bar to round out the month. Come celebrate eRock’s own Tommy Ranucci’s birthday celebration for a night to remember. Doors will open at 9:00PM.

September 29th — The Skullers at Fox & Crow {594 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City}

Don’t be fooled by Jack Skuller’s youth. He’s been in the game since the age of 14 and has been recognized from the likes of Radio Disney, Teen Vogue, WRAT 95.9Radio, and many more. He is ready to show-off his latest project that combines blues, with rock and rockabilly soul for a one-of-a-kind sound. The show will run from 10:00PM-12:00AM.

September 29th — The Burning Bees at Willie McBride’s {616 Grand St. Hoboken, NJ 07030}

This band is no stranger to Hudson County or New Jersey for that matter. After a summer full of Jersey Shore performances, The Burning Bee’s are back up north to jam along. Show starts at 11:00PM.

Jazz for Lunch

Head on over to Exchange Place for a groovy lunch. Every Thursday from 12:00PM-2:00PM at The J. Owen Grundy Pier.

Horizon Foundation Sound of the City

One of NJ’s premier entertainment venues, NJPAC is hosting weekly free concerts. Join in on the fun every Thursday night to hear artist ranging from Antibalas to Rah Digga. BOYS (bring your own seat) starting at 5:00PM.

Thursday nights in Hoboken — Havana Nights Live Music, and live music during Sunday brunch.

FM — Jersey City

Open Mic Mondays. Showcase new talent every Monday at this musical powerhouse of a venue. Each week a different special guest is in the house for feedback. A full backline, guitar and bass amps, and drum kit are available for use. Please bring your own cymbals if needed.
