Back in 2016 founder Brittany Graziosi established the Jersey City Oddities Market, a pop-up marketplace focusing on a niche selection of oddities and one-of-a-kind alternative art. Over the years she has hosted over 100 local taxidermists, artists, jewelers, and other talented crafters to showcase their work throughout the Jersey City community.

Brittany was born and raised in Jersey City and grew up in the Greenville neighborhood. She is an alumnus of County Prep High School where she first got a taste of jewelry making in an art class taught by Charlene Kahse. In 2010,  Brittany started her jewelry brand called Antisocial Jewelry Co. which she said was the catalyst for starting Jersey City Oddities in the first place. Her unique designs were made from bones, animal teeth, butterfly wings, and other natural materials.

Brittany has been interested in antiques, medical anomalies, taxidermy, and other oddities since she was a kid. She told us, “When I was about five years old I declared that I wanted to be an archaeologist when I grew up. Later that changed to mortician which is what I actually pursued – so my special interest in the oddities world is antique funerary goods! That’s what I personally collect.

Brittany now lives in Bayonne with her son and remains closely knit within the Jersey City community. When we asked her what her favorite part of starting Jersey City Oddities was, she said: “By far the best part of the market is how close I’ve become to a lot of the vendors. Many of the artists have become my best friends in the last few years of the events. When my son was hospitalized last year many of them rallied behind us, donating to fundraisers for him. Likewise, when the artists have had emergencies we always come through for each other. Two years ago this month actually one of the longtime vendors Cheri Applegate passed away at the age of 50 – and many of the vendors contributed to a fundraiser for her husband, and I handled her funeral arrangements at my job. Seven-plus years in, we really are a family.”

Attending An Event

This event in particular is extra special for Jersey City Oddities because it will be taking place inside of Twilight Thrift Shop which Brittany opened back in January of 2024 after clearing out an abandoned Payless ShoeSource storefront. Brittany says “The thrift shop has everything from your typical dirt cheap home goods to the strange and unusual goods you’d find at the oddities market – but it’s open 6 days a week!”
