Arrests Made in Jersey City Homicide

On Saturday, March 9th, 2024 — in the early hours of the morning, a shooting took place in Jersey City leaving one person dead and two others injured. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office tweeted this statement at 9:07AM, noting that they were investigating the incident in the area of Jordan Avenue and Mercer Street in Jersey City.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office shared, “The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a shooting in the area of Jordan Avenue and Mercer Street. One individual was fatally wounded and two others are injured. More to follow.”

This would be the first homicide in 2024 in Jersey City, according to Jersey City Times.

A further update on March 9th provided updates on the victims, including the name of the victim who was fatally wounded, as well as other details. Per Jersey City Times, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez stated that the shooting took place just before 6:30AM, when JCPD was notified of shots fired on Jordan Avenue.

The three men were taken to Jersey City Medical Center, and 33-year-old Christoph Terrero Marte of Jersey City was pronounced dead around 7:35AM. The two other men, a 28-year-old from Union City and a 31-year-old from Jersey City, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made as of this writing.

Arrests Made 

Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Per a press release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, March 27th, a Hoboken man has been charged with murder, and a Jersey City man has been charged with other offenses in connection with the incident. 

Joseph Del Valle, of Hoboken, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was arrested on March 26th, 2024, in Jersey City. He is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

Francisco Salcedo, 42, of Jersey City, has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was arrested on March 11th, 2024, at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus.
