Two words: Carpe Diem. Sometimes in life, we just have to seize the moment and make the most of the situation at hand. And that’s exactly what Allison and Chris did after the pandemic pulled the rug out from under their wedding plans in Key West this October. The pair decided to enjoy the moment, adjust to the situation, and pulled off a beautiful and intimate wedding in Hoboken during COVID-19 — which included their puppies! Read on to learn about this couple’s charming, micro-wedding that took place in Hoboken this fall.

Allison and Chris were law school classmates at Seton Hall Law, but their paths did not cross until a few weeks before graduation in spring 2013 when they met by chance through a mutual friend at Mikie Squared. The rest was history. “We went back to Mike Squared for our first date a few weeks later,” Allison told Hoboken Girl.

Coincidentally, the pair both lived in Hoboken at the time as well. After nine years of moving to different apartments throughout their time in the Mile Square, they are in the process of buying their first condo here.

The Proposal

Over Labor Day weekend in 2019, Allison had thought they were going out on a boat with two of their friends. “Chris suggested we pick up bagels from our favorite spot [O’Bagel] and have breakfast in Liberty State Park before heading over the marina. While munching on our bagels and looking out at the Statue of Liberty, Chris got down on one knee and popped the question,” she explained.

Like a true gentleman, Chris then surprised Allison again by having a group of their friends waiting at the marina, where he had charted a boat to celebrate out on the water all day.

The Wedding

“We had planned a beach wedding in Key West for October 10, 2020, but in the summer, we decided to postpone until June 12, 2021, because of the pandemic. As October approached, we realized that we really wanted to get married on our original date, even if it meant completely changing our plans,” Allison said.

And so, they started to look at restaurants in the Hoboken area and when they learned Bin 14’s back patio was open on October 10, they quickly moved forward. Allison explained, “Bin 14 was very accommodating and allowed us to have the ceremony on-site, followed by a brunch reception. They also let us bring in a live musician and decor, which added to the overall festive vibe.”

13 people in total attended the wedding including the couple, their immediate families, Allison’s Maid of Honor, and Chris’s Best Man.

“My favorite moment of the day was seeing Chris for our first look in Columbus Park. Even though I had been pretty calm throughout the whole wedding planning process, the pre-wedding butterflies kicked in right as I was walking to meet him. But, as soon as he turned around for our first look and gave me a big hug, all of those nerves melted away and gave way to pure excitement about marrying my best friend,” Allison shared.

Allison’s advice for engaged couples out there “Accept that things will happen during the wedding planning process that you can’t control, especially when planning during a global pandemic.”

“Lauren was fabulous to work with from the very first email and phone I had with her. She offered smaller packages that were perfect for a micro-wedding and was very willing to work with us to help us determine exactly how much photography coverage would work best for our day. She made us feel so comfortable when we were taking photos. The day after our wedding, she sent us a few sneak peek pictures that we absolutely loved.”

Bouquet and Boutonniere:

Melissa Diaz {@Mela_Fleurs}

“I met Melissa when she was having a pop-up shop outside of Brooke + Bel and instantly fell in love with her beautiful dried flower arrangements. I knew I wanted a dried floral bouquet so I reached out to Melissa on Instagram. After chatting with me about what I wanted, Melissa put together a bouquet and boutonniere that 100% aligned with my vision and completely blew me away. And, since they are dried flowers, we now have them in a vase in our apartment as gorgeous home decor.”

Musician:

Mike Buscio {@mikebushh}

“I found Mike through a recommendation on the Hoboken Girl Insider Facebook group, and he played the guitar and sang during our reception. If you are putting together a small wedding reception, I highly recommend reaching out to Mike because having him there really made it feel like a celebration, even with the smaller guest count. Our guests were raving about how talented he was!”

Make-Up + Spray Tan:

Tre Chique {@salontrechique}

When another salon canceled my hair and make-up appointment at 4:30 pm the night before the wedding, I contacted Tre Chique in a panic and they were able to help me out, even though it was a Friday night and I needed services the next morning. Kim {@hair_bykimmm} came to my apartment to do my make-up. She nailed the look I wanted and my make-up stayed on all day and night. I also had gone to Tre Chique for my spray tan a few days prior to the wedding, and they did a great job giving me a natural glow.”

Dog Walking:

Hoboken Happy Paws {@hobokenhappypaws}

“When we decided to get married in Hoboken, we knew we needed to include our rescue pups in pictures. When the dogs were done with their photos, Hoboken Happy Paws came to pick them up from us and brought them to playgroup. The dogs had a great time {as always} and we could relax knowing that they were in good hands.”
