From Jersey City to Hoboken, there’s Italian influence everywhere. Of course, beyond the savory foods, there is something seriously special about Italian baked goods. Cannoli, cookies, bread — you name it, we love it. Prato Bakery first opened in Jersey City in 2018 , but they have since expanded to three additional storefronts across Hoboken + Jersey City, and have most recently opened a new spot in The Heights. Prato serves up some seriously amazing baked Italian goods and has found its way to the hearts (+ stomachs) or Hudson County locals – but now, Prato has made its way to the national stage as Andy Cohen’s guest on Watch What Happens Live. About Prato

Bakery-goers can expect a menu full of various biscuits — cantucci and brutti buoni — focaccia, ciabatta, and delicious Italian sweets such as pancioc (round soft bread with big chocolate chunks), pan di romerino (soft bread with rosemary and raisins), Nutella focaccia bread, and more. This bakery quickly gained a local following as a delicious spot for baked goods and treats. Prato’s first location was on Erie Street and moved to 371 4th Street, JC in 2018. After that, Prato opened its second location at 201 Washington Street (which took over the old Koro Koro location), Hoboken. Then, in 2021, Prato’s third location at 150 Bay Street opened in Jersey City, and finally, in 2022 they brought a fourth location to 296 Palisade Avenue in the heights.

Prato Bakery originated as a New York City location back in 2008. After five years, bakery owner and Tuscany-born Simone Bertini closed II Cantuccio in order to move the business full-time to Jersey City. The Prato Bakery tradition expanded from the streets of Manhattan to Jersey in 2015 — without losing its sense of deep-rooted history and tradition. “After the experience and the success of II Cantuccio NYC in West Village in New York City, I decided to open a new bakery with the same characteristics in the vibrant community of Jersey City,” Simone Bertini wrote on the bakery’s website.

“Here I found the right warm atmosphere for an artisan product like mine, to share with the community the old recipes of my tradition and the flavors of my Tuscany,” Bertini added.

What’s on the Menu

prato bakery hoboken

With an extensive bakery menu that features myriad focaccia sandwiches, pan brioche sandwiches, and original Prato’s cookies made with almond, apricot, fig, almond paste, and prunes. These are not your average American-Italian deli sandwiches (not knocking — we love youzz too) — they’re authentically how they serve them in Italia.

Prato also offers an array of signature beverages. Among them are authentic Italian espresso and cappuccino reminiscent of Tuscany.

We’d also be remiss not to mention that they may have the best chocolate chip biscotti in the game — mostly because of these chocolate chunks (if you’re into that sort of thing) — but also because it’s super fresh and made in-house.

Prato also offers iced coffee, Americanos, lattes, and tea. Additionally, for those interested in dessert-beverage hybrids, Prato’s menu features cioccolattes — coffee lattes made decadent with Nutella.
