Hoboken Girl of the Week: Seema Bansal {of Venus Et Fleur}

This week, we’re traveling up the Hudson to Edgewater to introduce you to a budding {literally} business that we are in loooove with — and highlighting the powerhouse woman behind it. With the holiday season upon us, this is one gift to wow those hard-to-shop-for loved ones on your list {plus you may also want to leave the link where your SO is sure to find it… wink wink}. We’re talking Eternity Roses by Venus Et Fleur, which was created when Seema Bansal, a local Edgewater resident.

The backstory: Seema received a {let’s just say less-than-stunning} floral arrangement from her fiancé when he was her boyfriend several years ago. The flowers quickly wilted, and it left her wanting more. So with her biz partner Sunny Chadha, Seema set out to transform the online floral industry by providing real roses that stay fresh for a full year with little maintenance, now known as Venes Et Fleur. As the only floral company to ship to all 50 countries and be sold at any department store in the US, Venus Et Fleur is also the exclusive floral provider for Saks 5th Avenue. With their incredible bloom in business {and because we want you to share in these floral beauties}, we chatted with the person behind the petals to learn a little more about our neighbor to the north, Seema Bansal — this week’s featured Hoboken Girl.

On what inspires her

Travel and art inspire me most. It brings to the forefront my creative side. My company keeps me motivated, I get most creative at night with ideas and thoughts on how to keep the company growing. Thinking about all the things we still need to accomplish keeps me motivated!

About her goals for this upcoming year

My goals for 2018 are to top my 2017 goals – I am a goal setter. I truly believe this is a great practice to see on paper what needs to be done. I cannot wait to sit down to do my 2018 goals.

What a “typical” day in the life looks like

I start off every morning with prayer and meditation – that’s a must! I drink my favorite matcha/green tea and then look at my calendar. My days vary because I wear many hats. I am usually working with my NYC team, however I do spend a lot of time in our warehouse making sure quality is superb and at the highest standard. We never truly turn off. Being an entrepreneur means being available to your company at all times.

On the highlights of her career and life… so far

I think the biggest highlight of my career so far has been making Forbes 30 Under 30. What an amazing feeling; those are the moments that truly make all our hard work worth it. The most rewarding part of my job is being part of some of our customers/clients most special moments. We love when they integrate Venus Et Fleur into their engagement, baby reveals, anniversaries, and weddings. Those are my favorite moments.

How she spends her down time

We are always working even when we want a moment off. We are a growing company so I believe there’s never a real full day off. But in my spare time, I like to relax and spend time with family and friends. I also find the meditation has been perfect for my busy schedule.

Her advice to future entrepreneurs

Being an entrepreneur is definitely rewarding if you stick to it and put in all the hard work.

About the roses:

Venus et Fleurworks with an Ecuadorian farm to source their roses, and then produces and quality checks every arrangement in house, which allows for an extremely low defect and dissatisfaction rate. Not only are these arrangements gorg, but they smell divine and will fragrance your home as well {you should smell the Hoboken Girl office}.
