G. Millz Boken Roadhouse in downtown Hoboken has been shuttered for several years, with no movement happening at the space. Located at 61 Jackson Street, the restaurant bar was a bit of an island on its own, in what could be described as a bit of a food desert in SW Hoboken. Just recently, however, construction has begun on the space, leading locals to speculate what is to come. After a little research, the answer is, in a nutshell: condos. Here’s more about what’s to come to the downtown Hoboken space.

What’s to Come to 61 Jackson Street?
The 61 Jackson Street location is a very distinctive spot, at the epicenter of several roads in downtown Hoboken. Its specific space and location (set apart from other buildings, in a triangular-shaped lot) gave it somewhat of a landmark appearance, with a tiny building used as a bar/restaurant on the lot. Now, it will be turning into eight condo units, housing four 2-bedroom and four 3-bedroom units. There will also be a ground floor cafe facing the Southwest Park.

We verified these plans with ward Councilman Ruben Ramos, who also stated, “Building will not have parking, because the goal is they will have option to rent spots in the new garage at 38 Jackson St.” At a January 17, 2024 meeting, the City of Hoboken approved this redevelopment with the company 118 Clinton Associates LLC.

38 Jackson Street is a bigger project that is rebuilding the Chambord building in Hoboken nearby. Apartments, restaurants, shops, a parking garage, and space for a supermarket are being built off this building’s location, where two devastating fires destroyed the historic building and tragically killed two community members.
The original plans included retail and restaurant spaces, and the addition of 123 apartments — with several apartments to be set aside for affordable housing units. The building will be expanded from five stories to nine, and a 250+ space parking garage will be added, per these plans.
Councilman Ramos told The Hoboken Girl team in summer 2022, “I’ve talked frequently with the building owner and property manager. It’s an exciting project for the neighborhood, with the retail possibilities and bringing a grocery store to Southwestern Hoboken.” He went on to say, “This project will make Southwestern Hoboken a destination, along with the expansion of the Southwestern Resiliency Park. We will make sure all the construction is done safely within all of the codes. We will protect both people working on the property and people who live nearby the property.”
