With so many boutique fitness options in Hoboken + JC, finding a workout studio that is inspiring, effective, and keeps you motivated can be tough. About CycleMixx

JK Therapy

Founded by fitness gurus {+ Hoboken/JC locals} Jessica Calle and Bryanna Lashley, CycleMixx is one of Jersey City’s newest boutique workout studio offerings. CycleMixx differentiates itself from other cycling options in that classes are a hybrid of traditional spinning combined with other off-the-bike intervals such as total body strength, HIIT, legs & abs and barre. Told you it was game-changing…

Walking into the studio is a far cry from the dark and and cramped fitness spaces that can oftentimes be found in the area. With bright blue and gray tones, floor-to-ceiling windows, and the inspiring mantras written on the walls, CycleMixx is a clean, vibrant, and welcoming retreat. The studio comes equipped with state-of-the-art amenities including combination lockers, full bathrooms complete with showers {and organic toiletries from Taproot Organics in JC}, and top-of-the-line stationary bikes. Additionally, as it’s located right below the Cast Iron Lofts building {837 Jersey Avenue Suite 3, Jersey City} the studio is as easily accessible from Hoboken as it is Jersey City.

The Classes

CycleMixx offers a range of classes for customers of all levels. Signature classes at CycleMixx are a part of the #MIXXITUP series, which all include intervals on and off the bike. Here’s a little more about the classes:

#MIXXITUP Total Body – This class focuses on {you guessed it} a total body workout for arms, booty, and stomach. It features a combination of off-the-bike weight training and intense cycling transitions to give you the ultimate workout.

#MIXXITUP LEAN – This is a high-energy cardio conditioning class featuring a mix of bodyweight floor exercises and hardcore cycling drills {this is the class that members of the HG team did – more on that below!}

#MIXXITUP Barre & Bikes – This class combines 30 minutes of total body Barre sculpting exercises using bands and balls followed by 30 minutes of cycling. Definitely the best of both worlds.

#MIXXITUP Legs & Abs – This self-explanatory class also features exercises on and off the bike using weights + body weight to sculpt your abs and legs.

If you’re a spin fiend, have no fear – CycleMixx also offers a “traditional” spin class they dub Shut Up & Ride, a high-energy ride featuring sprints, climbs, and intervals. AND, rumor has it {wink, wink} that the studio is introducing yoga and dance hybrid classes soon as well.

The Experience

Aside from their awesome amenities, CycleMixx provides everything members need. Upon checking in for a class, members are given the option to rent hybrid cycling shoes {a.k.a. not your average clunky spin shoes} and a heart rate monitor. Dual screens at the front of the spin room project the metrics of each bike/class member throughout the class for ultimate motivation to push yourself {but don’t worry, it’s completely optional for those who don’t want to be included}.

The HG team recently attended a #MIXXITUP LEAN class, and rest assured we were not disappointed by the workout. Upon entering the spin room, we saw that each bike was equipped with dumbbells and a mat for off-the-bike strength portions and helpful associates roamed around prior to the class to help with any issues or concerns we had {they had their work cut out as we were obvious CycleMixx newbies}.

The workout itself was every bit challenging as it was fun – it kept us engaged and working hard the whole time. Our instructor {+ CycleMixx co-founder Bryanna} was motivating, knowledgeable, and bumped an awesome playlist to boot. After the class, we received a post-class summary email, which provided us with our metrics {including cals burned, rank in the class, and average RPM} so we can push ourselves even harder next time.
