Last week, we reported that a new Vietnamese restaurant was coming to Jersey City. We’ve now found out that yet another Vietnamese restaurant will be opening in Jersey City — and what’s more, this one is going to have a full bar. The spot will be located in the Hamilton Park neighborhood at 234 10th Street, taking over the former New Thanh Hoài space. The current name is Corner Pho, though this name may end up changing, per a fun social media contest from Silverman Building. While there isn’t a whole lot known about this new eatery, we’ve covered everything we know so far so you can prep for this new restaurant — and potentially even contribute to the spot’s name. Read on to learn more about Corner Pho, coming sometime soon to Jersey City.

Per Jersey Digs, after New Than Hoài closed this summer, the Silverman’s Schroeder Lofts building recently had signs go up. Now, a recent hearing confirmed that a brand new restaurant is moving in. The eatery is said to be called Corner Pho, though this actually may not be the permanent name.

“An entity dubbed LVQ1 LLC recently applied to take over the liquor license at the property and indicated via a public notice they will be doing business as ‘Corner Pho,'” Jersey Digs reported. “Little is known about the business as of this point, but a recent post from Silverman Building indicated that perhaps even the name of the restaurant is not set in stone.”

The aforementioned post went up a few weeks ago. Silverman Building posted on Instagram to share the news that a new Vietnamese restaurant would be taking over New Than Hoài — and even better, the owners actually opened a contest to help find the best name for the restaurant.

“CONTEST: NAME THAT RESTAURANT,” the post reads. “New Vietnamese Restaurant coming soon!! Guess the name____________. The restaurant owners would love some ideas from the neighborhood.”

The winner of this contest will receive complimentary meals on the first week of its opening — though we don’t know when that is. The comments, we must say, are a lot of fun.

One user, @sofritobabe, wrote, “My alternative name is: ‘Are You Pho Real?'”

@kgbest87 commented, “The New New Thanh Hoai!!”

The comments section is filled with plenty more fun and clever ideas — complete, of course, with lots of puns.

We’ll have to see if the owners choose to go with one of these creative suggestions or if the team will opt to keep the name, ‘Corner Pho.’

In terms of what to expect from this restaurant, it seems pretty clear there will definitely be some pho options in addition to other traditional Vietnamese eats. Plus, the presence of a full bar suggests more of a sit-down atmosphere rather than a quick grab-and-go.

Corner Pho joins other Vietnamese restaurants in the area like Bon Banh, which opened in Hoboken back in May of this year, along with Thanh Huong, Kung Fu Pho, and Saigon Cafe — all located in Jersey City. We’re also eagerly awaiting to hear more about Quick Pho’s opening date, also recently announced to be coming to Jersey City.

We’ll report back as soon as we know more about this brand new Vietnamese eatery.
