The shop announced via press release on October 17th that it would soon be opening in Journal Square at 244 St. Pauls Avenue in Jersey City, about a 10-minute walk from the Journal Square PATH. About Choc o Pain

Choc o Pain aims to bring a “little taste of France to the heart of Hoboken + Jersey City,” according to its website.

Harborside Sport + Spine

It all started when owner Clémence Danko, who is French, moved to Hoboken in 2009 and realized the area was lacking in great baguettes and croissants. This was inspiration for Clémence to leave behind her job in pharmaceuticals and study at New York City’s most renowned culinary schools and build out a concept for her business. Choc o Pain officially opened in January of 2012 in Hoboken, and a year later, the team expanded to Jersey City.

It has since expanded to two more locations — one in Hoboken, one in Jersey City.

The team works tirelessly to turn out freshly-baked items daily, and everything is made from locally-sourced ingredients when possible. From soups to pastries, sandwiches, drinks, and more, Choc o Pain has French breakfast + lunch cuisine covered.

Choc o Pain is currently located at 157 First Street and 1500 Hudson Street in Hoboken as well as 530 Jersey Avenue and 330-332 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City.

Expanding to a 5th Location

The French bakery + cafe has opened another Jersey City storefront. The shop announced via press release on October 17th that it would soon be opening at 244 St. Pauls Avenue in Jersey City, about a 10 minute walk from the Journal Square PATH. Now, as of October 31st, it’s open and ready for business.

Clémence explained, “Thanks to the loyalty of our customers, we’ve experienced steady expansion since opening the first Choc O Pain in Hoboken in 2012. We’re excited to be a part of the burgeoning Journal Square scene, while providing a special amenity to Le Léo’s residents. Now the entire neighborhood can enjoy our daily, fresh baked breads, pastries and café items.”
