Jersey City Urby has welcomed a new café called Canard Café Bar. With a location on the other side of the Hudson in Manhattan, local commuters might be familiar with French-inspired restaurant that has more than coffee and pastries. Coming to Jersey City
Canard first opened in NYC’s Financial District, at 32 Old Slip, New York, in the beginning of March. Shortly after, the location in Jersey City opened on March 19th. The café was founded by Sebastien Muller, who is also the Director of Operations of NYC’s popular Le District inside Brookfield Place. The name “canard” comes from the French way of how coffee is served, called “faire un canard,” in which sugar cubes are dunked into a warm cup of coffee and then nibbled. Canard in French means duck, hence the company’s logo.

Bringing the French eatery to Jersey City Urby was the perfect choice given its location and sense of community. The 70-floor apartment building is surrounded by other dining options including the sushi restaurant DOMODOMO and ice cream shop Ample Hills Creamery.

“We’re excited to bring this fresh concept to Jersey City,” David Barry, founder, and CEO of Urby told Patch.com. “The addition of Canard Café Bar reflects Urby’s commitment to creating vibrant community spaces for residents and locals.”
About the Menu
Canard’s menu has more than a wide variety of hot and iced coffee (which, by the way, is roasted in Brooklyn). For refreshments, there are fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies, teas, and soft drinks. There are some protein shakes to choose from including the berry workout whey, peanut butter and banana, and before or after workout shake.
The new café also serves salads such as roasted turkey, chicken Caesar and Like A Canard. There are sweet and savory crepes, quiches, and bagels to choose from as well. The sandwiches consist of croque madame, spicy tuna ciabatta, and smoked turkey, among others.

The delicious desserts available range from banana and lemon bread to macarons and chocolate fondant. There are also lemon, chocolate, and strawberry tartelettes. All products, according to the website, are sourced from a mix of local and imported European purveyors.

Canard Café Bar is open Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 8PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30AM to 6PM.
