Opening In Jersey City

The new coffee shop is located next to Madox Apartments at 198 Van Vorst Street, Jersey City. The owner, Rami Rosen, also owns Yuki’s Coffee + Bakery in Hoboken (720 Monroe Street), which opened during the pandemic.

Rami told The Hoboken Girl that Gotan initially had four locations in New York, but then three spots were forced to shut down during the pandemic. The Tribeca location, at 130 Franklin Street, New York, has been in business for eight years and is still going strong.

The owner, who used to live in Hoboken but now resides in North Bergen, said that he wants to focus on expanding in New Jersey going forward.

“Jersey City is the place to be in today. It’s definitely a diverse community, a strong community, and we felt like there’s not enough quality of the same food and coffee that Gotan is famous for in Tribeca. We decided that the Jersey people enjoy better coffee,” Rami told HG.

Gotan Cafe opened its doors on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023. The cafe posted a video on Instagram to share the exciting news with their followers.

“We’re officially open in our new Jersey City location! @gotanjc The shop will be operating in soft opening conditions at the moment but we’re finally here to introduce you to our Truly. Great. Coffee. and to some of our top + favorite dishes,” the post read.

About the Menu

Although the coffee is the same between both locations, Rami said that the menu differs due to the fact that the space is smaller.

“We didn’t bring the entire menu into Jersey City because it’s a very small version of Gotan in Tribeca. The menu has five or six items of food, and the majority is coffee and pastries,” Rami told The Hoboken Girl.

“Gotan is a third-generation specialty coffee with a very unique type of food. Counter Culture has been our partner for the last eight years.”

He continued, “Our passion is coffee so the coffee is high quality. Unlike many other coffee shops, we actually age our coffee. We use coffee for 10 days after it’s been aged. We don’t use it beyond that. Our coffee is consistent and very high quality.”

Their drink selection includes cold brew, Americano, espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, chai latte, matcha latte, and mint lemonade.

Rami also mentioned that Gotan Cafe is famous for their Middle Eastern cuisine. The owner took inspiration from Israel where he’s from and brought along “different touches from cuisines.”

Some plates include their famous tuna, avocado, and poached egg salad, as well as the avocado feta toast and tuna, avocado, and swiss sandwich. They also have yogurt, granola, and baked goods.

More to Come

Gotan Cafe will soon be opening two other locations in Hudson County – one of them being in Weehawken, which will open later this year.

According to Gotan’s social media, “Our dishes aren’t just food on a plate. They’re a combination of creativity, the hard work of the staff, and our mission to make our guests smile.”
