How The Local Barre Social Club Came to Be

A local husband + wife team opened Local Barre at 1180 Maxwell Place in Hoboken in 2010 as a barre-based fitness studio. Ten years later when things shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, they decided to revisit what they could provide the women of Hudson County. Katie Knowles heads up the brand direction and works hand in hand with Jenna Turcich who oversees operations.

“The pandemic really made us think about the direction of our brand and how we could better serve the community. We decided as a team to reopen the Monroe location with this new concept and new brand direction in mind,” Katie told The Hoboken Girl. “We wanted our clients to feel recharged, relaxed, and immersed into our brand so we designed the space with deep, moody colors and vibrant wallpaper to create a speakeasy atmosphere. Our goal is to connect and bring women together while helping to simplify their daily needs at the same time. We are excited to offer so much to our local community in one space.”

From the chandeliers to the hardwood floors and velvet accents, the sophisticated vibe in the new space makes you feel like you’re part of an exclusive club. Not to mention, the services are exhaustive, from fitness classes and blowouts to nanny services and Amazon returns — we’re not kidding when we say The Local Barre Social Club literally does it all.

“Clients can come to our space knowing that their fitness needs are met, recovery and body healing is provided, there is a workspace to take a conference call, and a chance to enjoy a cup of coffee while their child is well taken care of. Yes, we have a full-time nanny on our team for all of our local moms,” Katie mentioned. “This is a space where growth/development and personal needs can be met under one location, so you don’t have to run to drop off an Amazon return because we will do it for you. We want our clients to feel that they are well cared for.”

Local Barre Social Club is no longer just about taking a Barre class — it’s about combining overall health + wellness both mentally and physically into one convenient, high-class space. So if you’ve been looking for one place that “has it all”, this is it.

The Fitness Classes

Membership includes access to fitness classes at the barre studio in uptown Hoboken. With an overall focus on barre work, classes also combine cardio and stretching for a full-body workout. Core/Barre classes are offered daily with additional classes throughout the week including:

Open Barre “Quickie” wraps up all the classic barre moves into one 45-minute class, leaving you toned, conditioned, and strengthened. The BYOB distinction means a class welcomes car seats and babies under 6 months — just look for the BYOB in the description to know if babies are invited.

For a high intensity workout check out the HIIT the Barre class. Combining high intensity aerobic exercise with signature open barre techniques, this class will leave you sweating, breathless, and energized.

Nightcap is a “last call” class where you can get a workout in before you wrap up the night. The class focuses on lengthening and stretching which makes it a great compliment to a traditional barre class.

For girls ages 7-12, the Shirley Temple class introduces exercise and mindfulness in a welcoming environment. This class is also available as a private option so mothers and daughters can have a class to themselves.

“We feel extremely fortunate to be able to provide a space focused on female needs. There are areas to our concept that have been done, but our brand is pushing the envelope and bringing a wide range of services together that almost seem too good to be true,” Katie shared. “We hope our future clients are as excited as we are when you enter the Local Barre Social Club doors.”

Don’t forget to use code HBKNGIRL for $20 OFF current grand opening membership pricing, now through December 31st.
