Inspiration can be found anywhere, and Hoboken-based interior designer Antoinette Allande Anderson is back to give us a sneak peek of her latest home transformation. This latest project was inspired by a song that is sentimental to the family: the first dance song at their wedding. The end result is a Scandinavian, modern haven for the homeowners. Antoinette’s Latest Property Design in Hoboken
The home is located at 618 Madison Street in Hoboken. It was bought 2 years ago in 2019 by Emily Haas and James Dever. The property is 1,418 sq ft and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The inspiration behind the renovation of the home was the client’s wedding song, “This Must Be The Place” by The Talking Heads, but covered by Iron and Wine.
HG: Tell us about the project.
AA: The clients wanted a really cozy and modern home. My interpretation of this is “Scandinavian Modern”. They favored a neutral color palette and I inserted green to bring in a bit of nature. I included lots of warm wood tones, soft and chunky textiles, and large wool rugs to make the interiors super cozy.
The architecture is cookie-cutter, nothing remarkable stands out. Therefore my approach in this situation is to add very exciting BIG lighting, art, and furniture to stand out. I layer it all and you no longer notice the dull architecture. Voila! Now they have a stunning room. My clients are bon vivants; they have a lot of fun friends and they love to entertain. The open space is very inviting for cocktail parties as well as dining.

HG: What were three key pieces in the house or a specific room that were essential to the design?
AA: The dining room chandelier is monumental and moody. It also solved the problem of a very long and plain ceiling, because it filled it up and became the focal point of the room. The framed photographs, they’re remarkable artwork in the Living Room by photographer J. Bennett Fitts. And lastly, the large cozy rugs warm up the spaces
HG: Were there any additional expenses you didn’t think you’d encounter?
AA: None, we stayed completely on budget.
HG: What stands out about this property?
AA: It has an open layout that is great for entertaining, it is spacious and has a large private outdoor space with a fire pit lounge area, grilling, and dining area.
