Wine shops can be found in Hoboken on every corner — and with over 120 drinking establishments in Hoboken, it’s not hard to find a place to grab a drink. When that location is someone’s home or a local BYOB restaurant, then a wine and spirits shop is the necessary first stop!  And when it comes to wine, the best values are typically found in the bottles made by craftsmen who invest more in making great wine more than they do in garnering press through big-brand advertising, magazine scores, and other hype. These are the wines often found on the shelves of CoolVines.

As a local, family-owned business, CoolVines, originally opened in Jersey City, has just opened in Hoboken. This store places a significant emphasis on authentic quality when it comes to product selection and customer service with everything they sell – great wine, craft beer, and small-batch spirits.  Read on to learn more about this new shop in Hoboken for all your BYOB needs + a Hoboken Girl exclusive offer.

Established in Jersey City at 276 Grove Street and 350 Warren Street, CoolVines opened its Hoboken location on November 23rd at 211 Washington Street, bringing unique products to passionate wine drinkers in this great city.

“We want people to know that we are committed to Hoboken and being part of this community for the long haul,” says John Ward, the General Manager at CoolVines. “This is such a culturally diverse and vibrant town and we’re thrilled to contribute to it in our own unique way. Wine is global, and Hudson County is global. What better way to learn and relate with one another than over wine?”

Shopping for Wine Should Be Fun: A Philosophy

The philosophy at CoolVines is that shopping for wine and spirits should be fun and hassle-free. A large part of an enjoyable wine experience is having the right wine for the occasion. Matching the wine to the preference of those in attendance, the occasion, and the accompanying food, all serve to enhance the pleasure from the pour.

“It is our goal at CoolVines to create an environment, both in our stores and on the web, where anyone can shop for wine without feeling overwhelmed by the complexity that often surrounds the experience of shopping for wine,” John says. “We believe that one should be able to enjoy the search for wine as much as the drinking of it {well, almost as much}. We believe that it is possible for every wine drinker to learn how to find wines that suit his or her personal palate, and not be held captive to the wine ratings of ‘experts’.”

Products Curated for Customers

The staff at the CoolVines Hoboken location is small-but-mighty, led by the President and Founder of CoolVines, Mark Censits (pictured below). On-site are General Manager John Ward, Store Manager Dina Brereton, Wine Manager Evan White, Assistant Wine Manager Sly Inda, and Anna Stanaiewicz, Sales and Customer Support Assistant. They specialize in small production low-intervention wines, craft beers, and artisanal spirits. The product selection is carefully curated for CoolVines customers, and products are selected to represent quality and value.

“Often people confuse us as a shop for experts and connoisseurs but our best customers are those that I call ‘aspiring wine drinkers’ — anyone looking to learn and explore, whether you’re an absolute novice or experienced wine drinker,” says owner Mark Censits. “By selling only wine that we truly believe in, we create a safe place to explore new things.”

“It’s so fulfilling when we get to interact with someone going on a wine journey, searching for the perfect bourbon, or a new favorite craft beer,” John explained to Hoboken Girl. “When a customer comes back in our shop and says, ‘That wine we had last night was amazing, thank you!’ The satisfaction and feedback from a happy customer makes our day.” The ever-evolving world of wine means there is always something new to learn and sharing that knowledge and passion with clients drives the staff at CoolVines.

The Types of Wines In-Store

Customers looking for something outside the norm in the wine world will find twists on the traditional at CoolVines. The store stocks products most people have never seen in other stores — thanks to the focus on sourcing from smaller wine producers, grower wines, craft distillers, and local breweries. This opens up a new world of possibilities to people looking for something beyond the big box brands.

“If it’s natural wines, organic wines, biodynamic wines, orange wines — you name it — we have it,” John says. “We update our product offerings weekly, always seeking to keep our shops stocked with the best of the best in the world of wine, beer, and spirits. Although craft beer and artisanal spirits are a big part of what we offer, CoolVines customers know they are getting amazing wines. More than anything, our wine selection is what we hang our hats on.”
