Meet Satya Devi Singh — who is no stranger to The Hoboken Girl. You may have seen her as our person of the year for 2018’s Best of Hoboken + Jersey City awards, or perhaps as Hoboken Girl of The Week back when she was just 4-years-old and a cancer survivor inspiration. Now at the age of nine, she’s her mother’s inspiration for her book series, as well as set to star in Mile Square Theater’s show, 7th Inning Stretch.

This production surrounds seven plays that last 10 minutes each — all about baseball. The 19th Annual 7th Inning Stretch production will be at MST from June 16th – June 17th, 2023. Read on to hear all about this rising young star has to say about this production and her experience as a young actor — from Satya herself:

Satya shares:

My name is Satya Devi Singh and I am 9 years old. I go to Stevens Cooperative School in Hoboken. Some of my hobbies are: Reading, writing, traveling (even though I don’t do it as much as the others), and hanging out with friends and family. One of my other hobbies is – insert jazz hands –  ACTING! I study acting at Mile Square Theatre, an awesome place filled with fun-loving, kind and hilarious human beings.

This weekend, I’m in a play called The 7th Inning Stretch. It is a play that goes on in Mile Square Theatre every year. It is seven, ten-minute plays about baseball. Something cool about Hoboken is that the first baseball game was played here.

The first play of the night, “Uptown Funk”,  is about a brother and sister going to a Mets game.  They have to go because she is doing a journalism-style report on baseball.  The brother is super annoyed about having to go because all he wants to do is make 10,000 TikToks with his friends. I’m not supposed to tell you this, but there is an awesome surprise in “Uptown Funk” you cannot miss!

I think you should come to the 7th Inning Stretch because it is a fundraiser for MST. The fundraiser matters because MST is a non-profit organization and it is a place where kids, like me, go to have fun and learn. This is also my first adult play and I will really value your presence.

It will also be very enjoyable because there is someone who was on Broadway, my fellow actor, Nirvaan Pal, who will also be performing. Nirvaan is a talented person. Whenever I am around him he makes me feel very important. He is a very good actor and dancer. No wonder he was on Broadway!

Something else about this play that makes me feel loved is that I am Indian-American and the playwright, Nandita Shenoy, is also Indian American. My fellow actor Nirvaan Pal is also Indian American, and his character, Vedant is also Indian American. My character, Rekha, is Indian American, too. This, for me, is a dream come true in many ways. I have always wanted to be in a play or see a play, with Indian American characters, just like me.
