A longtime staple in Hoboken is officially looking for its next chapter. Vito’s Deli, a go-to spot for classic Italian sandwiches and casual comfort food, is currently up for sale, according to a direct message shared with The Hoboken Girl team by the Vito’s official account. The deli is located at 806 Washington Street, where it’s been for over 40 years.
While details on the listing are still limited, the news direct from Vito’s signals a potential shift for the neighborhood favorite, which has built a loyal following over the years for its no-frills menu and Italian specialties. A serial winner of Hoboken’s ‘Best Mutz’ at Mutzfest year after year, it is unclear if Vito’s will change ownership and stay with its classic feel, or if it will be a complete changeover.
The Vito’s account messaged us on Friday, 3/20 at 4PM, saying, “NEWS FLASH VITO’S DELI IN HOBOKEN FOR SALE AFTER 40 YEARS” which we take seriously, unless, of course, they were hacked. We did reach out to the deli to confirm, and are awaiting a response. They did not answer the phone when we called. And yes, we even tried calling them on Instagram as well as the landline.

^not kidding.
It’s unclear what the future holds for the space, but for now, you *may* want to stop by and show some love to a small business that’s been part of the community for the last 40 years.
This is not the first old school Hoboken business that has announced closure or a change in the last few years; Tornas recently closed its doors in Hoboken for good, and a mysterious listing was spotted about Lisa’s Deli being up for rent (though the jury is still out if that’s a rumor or not, despite the listing being in several places online).
We’ll update this post as more information becomes available. For now, order your sandwiches STAT, and read more from one of our archives articles about the owners here (from 2018!).
