Unilever, the world’s sixth-largest consumer goods company, is relocating its North American headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to the Hoboken waterfront. Even if you don’t know Unilever, you know Unilever: the manufacturing giant is responsible for a slew of popular brands, from personal care options like Dove and Axe to grocery store veterans like Hellmann’s and Ben + Jerry’s. The company is taking over 111,000 square feet at the Waterfront Corporate Center 1 on River Street, following a trend of offices downsizing as hybrid and work-from-home models persist in popularity. Unilever is expected to move in by the spring of 2025. Keep reading to learn more about Unilever’s new Hoboken headquarters.

The Details

Per NorthJersey.com, Unilever opened its revitalized Englewood Cliffs campus in 2018 as a self-proclaimed “workplace of the future.” The new and improved headquarters boasted common areas, lounges, a workout room, yoga mats, shuttles to New York City, and more “swanky” amenities, according to the outlet.

In the years following COVID, there’s been a trend “of companies moving to smaller footprints in urban areas,” per ROI-NJ. Unilever, according to the outlet, seems to be following suit.

On Monday, August 26th, Unilever announced its impending departure from its Englewood Cliffs North American headquarters. The company has inked a deal with SJP Properties and is slated to take over 111,000 square feet of the Waterfront Corporate Center 1 in Hoboken by spring 2025.

As of now, it’s unclear how many employees will relocate from the Englewood Cliffs location to Hoboken. Per NorthJersey.com, Unilever will maintain its research + development division in Englewood Cliffs.

The Waterfront Corporate Center takes up three buildings along the Hoboken waterfront and is already home to some big-name corporations, including EY, Lipton, Walmart, and Newell Brands.
