If you’ve been wondering what happened to the Harborside building, as it’s seen a lot of changes in the last few years, we have some updates — a new restaurant just opened in the building. The District, located at 210 Hudson Street in Jersey City, is a modern American restaurant with an extensive craft cocktail list + elevated dinner menu in Harborside. Yes, we know it’s a business district and area, but this spot is really upping the post-work happy hour and dinner game. Keep reading to learn more about The District and its craft cocktails — and how to make a reservation at this new eatery.
The Story of The District
While The District may sound familiar — as the spaces inside Harborside have had various names with District in them (think: District Kitchen), the restaurant in the old Manny’s space (which closed during COVID) is now newly-reopened this summer as The District, owned by a local hospitality group which is run by New Jersey natives.
“We’re thrilled to be open in the area,” Alec Vorcheimer, One of The District’s Partners, shared with The Hoboken Girl. “Our goal is to curate the best cocktail list with elevated cuisine and make The District a perfect post-work spot for drinks and dinner. We want to create an immediate connection that feels like home-meets-hotspot.”
There’s a lot more coming to the various spaces of The Harborside building, but for now, The District is the main focus, according to its team.
A New Craft Cocktail Menu
The District is launching an extensive cocktail list hand-crafted by The District team. Each drink features natural ingredients + high-quality spirits, which was extremely important to ownership in the creation of the new menu.
“Ingredients are everything,” Alec shared with us, noting how he and The District’s head bartender collaborated to create everything on the menu from scratch, with an emphasis on the highest quality of ingredients.
We got to taste-test a slew of them (read: the Light Rail ride home was a little fuzzy — The District is conveniently right next to the Harborside stop), and each one was refreshing in its own way.
^ Mammas Cosmo
The new cocktail menu launched at The District has classics like the Mammas Cosmo with Absolut Citron, Cointreau, lime juice, cranberry juice, + a twisted lemon peel (it’s a drier version — and SO good) or The Jersey City Girl with prosecco, Aperol, club soda, + an orange slice (a fun District version of the classic Aperol Spritz).
^ The Jersey City Girl
The Buckle Bunny is another unique fave we tried, which is The District’s version of the “Porn Star Martini” — combining flavors of passion fruit, vanilla, and sparkling wine, with a shot to pour in once served.
^ Smoky Mirage
The District Signatures menu includes sophisticated sips like the Smokey Mirage with 400 Conejos mezcal, prickly pear, lemon juice, + a worm salt rim, as well as the Street Light with 3 Star Planetary Rum, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and Luxardo liqueur. All juices are 100% cold-pressed + non-GMO, and all mixers are the highest quality possible.
Peanut butter + espresso martini enthusiasts — the Chica Chida Cocktail Peanut Butter Lover, a drink made with peanut butter tequila in collaboration with Barstool’s Caleb Pressley is also a must-try. This tequila is also allergen-friendly.
Happy hour deals are Monday to Friday from 4PM-6PM for select cocktails, beers, wines, + small plates. Ideal for post-work hangouts, of course.
The District is Now Open for Lunch AND Dinner
In case you missed it, The District is also serving lunch from 11AM-4PM. Currently on the menu is a taste of what’s to come in the District Marketplace next door — Nana’s Deli of Livingston. Nana’s will soon be a permanent fixture in The District’s new marketplace, amongst other Jersey favorites.
“We wanted to create a space for those who work in the Exchange Place district and the Harborside Building to have a comfortable and cool place to sit down and eat lunch,” Sue Vorcheimer, who heads all marketing and PR for The District, told The Hoboken Girl.
For dinner, the restaurant has an upscale menu that caters to local Jersey City residents — and is definitely worth the trek over. There are pool tables and lounges, which is ideal for lounging with friends.
Popular dinner items on the menu include the crispy pork brick, the District double burger, + the Freebird Farms half chicken with blossom honey and heirloom baby carrots.
Chef Cedric Gayon — a local chef who hosts pop-up dinners at various restaurants in Jersey City — will lead the cooking at The District. Chef Gayon used to work at Eleven Madison Park in New York City, and also owns a pop-up business called Five Tastes.
“The menu reflects American classics with the District spin on them. Our main dishes are comfort food plated in a creative and delicious way,” Sue said.
How to Book a Reservation
The new restaurant is already becoming a go-to spot for client lunches, date nights, + private dining events (we just went to Jersey City’s Day of Fashion after-party there last week).
The District is now open and reservations can be made on Resy — or just stop by for a drink.
Cocktail Menu Launch September 18th @ 4PM
There’s also an upcoming happy hour on September 18th which will launch the new cocktail menu to the public — so make sure to stop by anytime after 4PM on Wednesday, September 18th at 210 Hudson Street (turn left when you walk into Harborside)!
