A well-known sandwich chain has returned to Hoboken. A reader sent The Hoboken Girl photos of a permit up on Hudson Street in January 2026 detailing renovations to make way for a Subway sandwich shop at 205 Hudson Street. This part of the city has become a bit of a sandwich hotspot in Hoboken, as a major chain took over a local favorite a couple of years ago. As of June 22nd, the location is now open. Here’s what we know about the new Subway location in Hoboken and the other sandwich chains in the neighborhood.
What We Know About Subway In Hoboken
A reader confirmed to HG that as of June 22nd, the Subway location at 205 Hudson Street is now open. There are eight locations in Jersey City, but this is the first in Hoboken. The photo HG received in January 2026 was of the permit on the door says, “fit out of existing commercial space as a subway sandwich shop as per plan.”
The Hoboken Girl has reached out to Subway for more information. There was previously a Subway location in Hoboken at 418 Washington Street. This Subway location looks like it will be part of the Hudson Square South apartment community. Ubu, a restaurant serving Japanese and Korean dishes, was previously located at 205 Hudson Street before closing in February 2026.

Hoboken, a Sandwich Hot Spot
The Subway will be opening almost directly across the street from Jersey Mike’s. The Jersey-inspired sandwich chain is located at 202 Hudson Street and has been in Hoboken for nearly eight years. It’s headquartered down the shore in Manasquan, New Jersey, and has over 4,000 locations open and under development across the country.
Jersey Mike’s took over local favorite Fran’s Italian Deli back in 2018. The deli closed abruptly and was known for its amazing mutz, paninis, and sandwiches.
Hoboken is no stranger to sub shops. While there are dozens of delis and shops to grab a hot or cold sub around the city, Hoboken is also the birthplace of Blimpie. The sandwich chain was started by three friends from Hoboken over 60 years ago and grew to become one of the most well-known sandwich spots in the country. The chain has shrunk in recent years, with only about 100 locations open across the country in 2025. That’s down from over 1,800 in the mid-2000s.
The Hoboken Girl readers also shared their favorite places to grab a sandwich in town. For our Best of Hoboken 2025 Awards, readers crowned Alessio’s Cafe with Best Breakfast Sandwich and Fiore’s House of Quality with Best Deli and Best Mutz.
