If you filled out your March Madness bracket based on mascots, then, chances are you picked the St. Peter’s University Peacocks in Jersey City, and you’re going to be happy about this major upset. Jersey City’s own St. Peter’s University Peacocks BEAT Kentucky Wildcats in the kind of March Madness underdog win that makes even the least sports-loving of us get a little joy. The No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s Peacocks beat No. 2 seed Kentucky Wildcats 85-79 in overtime on Thursday night in the first round of the men’s tournament.

Saint Peter’s, which is located in Jersey City, New Jersey, is part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. It’s making its first tournament showing since 2011, after beating Monmouth 60-54 to enter into the big dance. Don’t mess with Chilltown, K?

No matter where you live in Hudson County, be it Hoboken, Jersey City, or beyond, this was a big W for the area. At St. Peter’s athletics, footage of crowds going wild were tweeted — as well as local and national sports tournament coverage.
