The Toddler Program
Hudson Montessori School begins educating its youngest learners at two-years-old. Through a holistic approach that is meant to stimulate each of the five senses, the Toddler Program nurtures each child, allowing them to build on their learning each day.
The toddler classroom at Hudson Montessori School is set up to meet the developmental needs of each child. With plenty of space for children to explore and grow in each of the five curricular areas — Language, Math, Sensorial, Practical Life, and Culture — this space provides opportunities for hands-on learning for children to work with concrete manipulatives. Equally as important, the classroom is warm, inviting, and cheerful — making it a wonderful place for children to begin their first experiences in a school setting.
Through the five curricular areas, children are presented with real-life experiences and tangible objects that help to reinforce the learning happening in the classroom. Lessons are then followed up with an activity related to the concept being studied through independent and collaborative group activities.
Foundation of Learning
A Montessori education provides the foundation for learning through adulthood, even at two-years-old. Primary concepts that are taught in the toddler classroom include learning by exploration; building communication skills; positive peer interactions; theme-based concept time; and cognitive development through sensory time, story time, creative time, water play, and sand play.
In addition to the Montessori Method used in the classroom, the program focuses on real-life skills – order, coordination, concentration, and independence (OOCI) — as well as the development and awareness of the five senses. These foundational learning milestones help children develop the skills needed for all future learning and pave the way for higher-level thinking and understanding.
