“Pour wax, pour wine, cheers to a good time” – that’s the motto of a brand new candle shop known as Rewax and Unwine that recently opened in Jersey City at 2 Division Street.

ReWAX and Unwine is a family-owned business that creates and sells handmade organic coconut wax candles and hosts candle-making classes for guests to try their hand at creating them. The owners, Ashley and Femi, frequent advanced candle workshops, join fragrance discussion groups, and stay up to date on the candle industry, according to a statement on the website.

What to Expect

Each guest will make one 10 oz candle and one 4 oz travel candle. Guests will be able to select their candle jar color and choose unlimited scents per candle. There are over 40 fragrance oils to mix within your candle. The team adds and changes fragrances seasonally.

BYOB candle-making parties last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The first hour is dedicated to guests making their custom scented candles, followed by a 30-minute period for the candle to “set” before they can be taken home. During this time, guests can play a game of candle trivia, mix and mingle, and receive candle care instructions.

The candles can also be personalized: both labels and dust covers for the candles are available for guests to make their own.

In addition to being BYOB, guests can bring snacks or have food delivered to the candle studio.

The cost is currently $59 per person, prices are subject to change.

ReWAX and Unwine also has an online shop that sells candle-making kits and accessories like a candle warmer, candle thermometer, and wick trimmers.

The studio is located next to the car wash across from Healy’s Tavern. To stay up to date on upcoming virtual and in-person events, follow ReWAX and Unwine on Instagram or visit the website.
